Ed,  Yeah, it’s not easy to do when I’m thinking with my wallet, but I’ve had too many dead batterys at the worst possible times. (or the worst possible places!)  That 50 lbs is extra heavy when walking to Walmart.    I’ll do just about anything to keep from breaking down.   Part of my OCD when it comes to cars.

Was regretting not getting out there today. I did get to climb this
thing though & fire off some simunition, so it was a good day.

Welcome Smitty.  I lived in Greenville for a short time back in 57-58.  Dad was moved there for work.   I don’t remember much about it just how friendly everyone was.  I was only about 7-8 years old then.  I did pick up a southern accent, took alot longer to loose it when we moved again.

Just to close this thread out:  Both heads cc’d at 50cc.  I installed them.  Compression ratio calculated at 7.8/1.   Compression pressures is 133-135 all around.  All’s well.   See the other thread on cylinder heads.

Good job Paul.   Looks like most of us are “baby boomers” or at least close. 

Got her running in driveway.  Started right up.  Ran at 2000rpm for 20 minutes.  No abnormal noises or temperatures.  Oil temp only got to 135 degrees.  Oil pressure 38# at end of run.  Idles right down to 800rpm.  For the first time, the carburetor adjustment screws change things as predicted.   If all goes according to plan, in she goes tomorrow…[Read more]
