Paul,
You’ve been doing an excellent job with the circumstances. I was unaware of the amount of work you are doing for this site and I applaud you for it. Thank you very much for what you do.
I was only trying to offer a suggestion that I’ve seen on other forums, but this site does not have a small army of admins that those others do.

The valves are the same in both heads. I measured them at 38×32. I’ll cc the heads and let you know.

Roy important head update
You have 2 different heads from 2 different motors.
Sorry I was bored
the 311-101-373A is a 67-70 1600 sp with 35.5×32 valves
the 113-101-373B is a 1300 sp with 33×30 valves
this info tells me that the chambers are different between the 2 -

Thanks all. These heads were (reportedly) both reworked by the same (but unknown) machine shop. Regarding cc’ing the heads, I have a graduated srynge (sp?) but don’t know what “normal” is. I know that I have read it somewhere but can’t find it. I don’t want anything other than stock or very close to it.

Roy a good engine shop should be able to CC the heads corectly for a small charge.Worth it in the end result.VW has to tight of tolerance to guess. Also don’t forget there is cylinder shims that can be used to set correct compresion ratio,if the head chambers are to small.

Well to update on the 350.
Most were bought as parts cars, aquired for $25-$50,some were traded for somthing different,I think it was a touch of ADD in my younger days.Somtimes I think it still is.I would venture a guess that 70% of the cars were drivable, and I did drive most of them for a short time.A couple of the more memorable ones.

Paul – You could set up another trusted member or two who you feel are capable to help you, to be able to delete spam if they see it too, before you get to it.On one of the motorcycle forums I have been on for years, I and 2 other members have been given admin privileges to delete spam and obnoxious posts and bar spammers. Guess that I should have said that the cars in my toy box were each owned, titled, licensed, and driven by me for at least a couple of thousand miles.

Don’t think I hit 350 maybe 100-150 range if I include all the junkers I drug home for parts.
That brings me to another er.. situation.. I have a chance to get a ’70 something TR6 and two 19?? Volvos. Mostly for scrap price. He just wants them gone, the way his wife talked. The Triumph has been sitting with a tarp on/off at least 15 years,…[Read more] -

MGLondonRoadste,
You can use your email to resize pictures. If you are using outlook its as simple as going to file and selecting to have the pics resized. If you are using Hotmail or Yahoo they also have functions to reduce the size of a pic.
Another way is to open the pic in paint and use the tools to resize by percentage. The pics can the…[Read more] -

Ed. Did it! The combustion chamber volumes are the same. I was surprised. Optical illusion. The extra 2.5mm is in the length of the sleeve/skirt that fits down around the outside of the cylinder wall. So, I guess that makes them exactly the same, – only different. Thanks guys.

edward ericson replied to the topic 2 different heads- tech question in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 3 months ago
Why not check the combustion chamber volumes? Just set them face up and level, get a good measuring cup or graduated cylinder (or just a turkey baster will do). Fill one of the chambers on the head you suspect is cut for less compression ratio up to the ridge where the cylinder wall will seat. Then suck out all the water with your baster and fill…[Read more]

Oldbuzz, 350? Wow! Did you own a dealership?
Paul, My first new car was a 1969 Dodge Dart with a “slant six” but I didn’t want to admit it. Traded a beautiful loaded Olds 88 convertible on it. Hated myself ever since. You’ve still got time to catch up, – I’ve got 18 years on you. Royal40945.4505324074 - Load More
