A couple questions, though: Do you get any grief from the law for not having a front plate, or for having your DPS sticker and registration centered in your windshield instead of in the lower left corner?

What a bumble-head I was. I failed to check my radiator water level and wonder if the low to no water level caused overheating and “blowby”. I was low on oil and water and luckily didn’t kill my engine. It look two quarts of oil and I’m getting a raditor flush or at least try to drain the rusty water out and put in some anti-freeze rust prohibitor

Well i did it. Uncovered it,replaced fuel filter, put the top down, backed it out of the garage, and went for a 10 mile ride. Probabley a mistake . Now i’m really looking forward to spring.I was just looking through weather history in our area and it is very common to get 60 degree days in March

MarkMy roommate in college had an original ’52 MG TD . It didn’t have wire wheels or any fancy accessories.. just one sweet looking and driving car.. and even more fun to tool around the countryside with all of its 12 year old imperfections..i.e. sagging doors etc. I loved it ! And as so many of you have said” the patina adds to the c… -

Old looking and faded adds to it’s charm as being more of an original. Anything shiny and spotless, while it may be nice looking, somehow doesn’t look as real or authentic. Everyone likes the look of a shiny new car, but I like mine, looking a little faded like a good old worn pair of jeans (which I live in).

There’s many of us always hanging around, checking this site at least once a day if not more. If other members could be allowed to delete and block spam, it would make Paul’s job a lot easier.

I will not be doing any museum or show quality work on either of my cars at this point. I’ll retreat from desire to have a brand new looking one and take the advice several of you have sent my way. I’ll accept the imperfections. They didn’t stop me from getting waves, honks and smiles as I drove it through four states or even in town…[Read more]

Paul,
You’ve been doing an excellent job with the circumstances. I was unaware of the amount of work you are doing for this site and I applaud you for it. Thank you very much for what you do.
I was only trying to offer a suggestion that I’ve seen on other forums, but this site does not have a small army of admins that those others do.

The valves are the same in both heads. I measured them at 38×32. I’ll cc the heads and let you know.

Roy important head update
You have 2 different heads from 2 different motors.
Sorry I was bored
the 311-101-373A is a 67-70 1600 sp with 35.5×32 valves
the 113-101-373B is a 1300 sp with 33×30 valves
this info tells me that the chambers are different between the 2 -

Thanks all. These heads were (reportedly) both reworked by the same (but unknown) machine shop. Regarding cc’ing the heads, I have a graduated srynge (sp?) but don’t know what “normal” is. I know that I have read it somewhere but can’t find it. I don’t want anything other than stock or very close to it.

Roy a good engine shop should be able to CC the heads corectly for a small charge.Worth it in the end result.VW has to tight of tolerance to guess. Also don’t forget there is cylinder shims that can be used to set correct compresion ratio,if the head chambers are to small.

Well to update on the 350.
Most were bought as parts cars, aquired for $25-$50,some were traded for somthing different,I think it was a touch of ADD in my younger days.Somtimes I think it still is.I would venture a guess that 70% of the cars were drivable, and I did drive most of them for a short time.A couple of the more memorable ones.
