Got the seller to agree to “think about” a $250 offer for a 1970 1600 sp engine with a “B” case. Very little rust, only cobwebs. I’m sure that it is all original. Complete engine. 035 distributor. Orig carb (even the “throttle positioner” and some other factory smog stuff which would go away immediately after purchase). This is the 1600…[Read more]

Hi John
Well I am a newbie also and can’t answer your question direct. I had a simlar problem finding a answer for the correct trailing arm for my 1970 VW MG TD and contacted rodney@airheadparts.com and sent him a couple of pictures and he gave me the info I needed plus he can get the part for me. Hope this helps. Maybe someone will know on t…[Read more] -

Thanks guys, You are right about seeing if the plugs will come out. I once bought a 4 cyl Mazda truck with about 45k miles. It logged 190k miles by the time I sold it. One of the plugs was original I didn’t dare take it out. The other 3 had been changed a few times. I’ve got a line on another 1500cc engine for $150 without a distr…[Read more]

Cold compression was the test I should have done on the tall-6 Mercury outboard I bought a few years back, attached to an ’83 Renken bowrider for $1000 all-in, with trailer. The engine turned over smartly & so I was conned by the PO into believing we had minor spark issues. When I finally got around to compression testing I discovered I had zero…[Read more]

Basic rules in photography are to divide your picture frame into thirds in both directions. Put your “center” or concentration on one of the the crossing lines (right left, up or down). That is great advice for putting your subject (the car) at one third down.
The first example photo is the only one that was available to me, and it’s shot so…[Read more] -

If your front end looks like MGLondonroadster’s the VW tow bar will not fit. You are probably going to have to come up with some custon design.
Perhaps you could use a Roadmaster Falcon tow bar and weld the mounts to the frame. That would allow for a very quick ez on/off without tools. If you are interested in this kind of fix, send me a PM…[Read more] -

If you are one of those wondering about EMPI 3487 fitting on a Daytona MiGi, it fits perfectly. It took me a few hours (mostly getting the old rusted one off) and the 3487 had to be convinced to fit with a large 4ft wood clamp, but once installed, it really looks at home. Lots of PB Blaster and I got lucky enough not to break any of the studs t…[Read more]

Mark,
Possibly overbuilt for a street VW-based kit car, but here is one source:
http://www.berrienbuggy.com/id96.htm
Looks like Avery’s might sell used trailing arms (the product page says call for price and availability, often a hint for “we don’t know if we can find them”):

Roy I’ll chime in.
$300 for a core be it sp or dp seems a bit high.whether it be a 1500 or 1600 the only differance is the heads.DP will give you a bit more snot,If you call 20 horse snot.I paid 125 for a 1971 AH dual port with case savers.
Seeing as you already have a good set of heads offer him $100 and you pull, and yes take the one that has the…[Read more] - Load More
