If it not a normal crank case breather road draft vent it may be that it is not lower than the oil pan .. the second or really the first thing to look at is the valve cover gasket back then they were made of cork and they dried out no amount if tightening would stop oil leaking on the exhaust manifold
and burning off . A 283 chevy was last m…[Read more]

Colorado, Looks great. I need a glovebox. Too much stuff. Where did you get the box itself? Or did you make it also?

You might want to look at another 283 and see if it has the same cap. Is it the oil filler cap or a small tube?
Engines of that era usually had a crankcase breather that vented blowby to the atmosphere through a hose that hung below the engine. In the frozen North that was considered a critical anti-rust feature. The hose was eventually routed…[Read more] -

Ray, the pic you found (in Wobby’s) is of the same vehicle as the white one in the other pics. Royal: yes, that’s a blindfold, and it’s a game–played at one of the early Gathering of the Faithful. The whole story is found here, at the “original MG” site. Quite a story!

Correction: While the TCs all came from the factory with big wires, TDs came with steel wheels. The earliest cars had solid discs; starting in late 1950 or early ’51 they were drilled with 15 round holes to improve brake cooling. All the cars had dog dish hubcaps from the factory. There were aftermarket wheel covers, including a multi-piece set…[Read more]

As I remember, TC’s were 19″ 48 spoke wires. Early TD’s were solid 15″ with a 15″ -48 spoke wire as an option. TF were mostly if not all wires. In the early 60’s I remember that there was a scare that the “new-fangled” radial tires gripped the road so well that it put too much sideways pressure on the wires in a hard turn so, many change…[Read more]

(Whatever “FTD in an MGB” means? It came over when I copied.) If you look carefully at the driver in pic #2, he appears to be wearing a bandana over his eyes. Do you suppose that this was some sort of game where the passenger gave verbal info to the driver in an early attempt at remote control driving??

Sometime in the late 60’s I saw this modified TD. At the time I had a TF and really wasn’t interested. But that was then and this…..
