Roy, Congratulations on ”doing things right”You won’t regret it especially if you are envolved in an accident or ever decide to sell it.Each state has their own rules for these cars and each inspector has his own interpretation of the same rules. When I got my BCW,it had a New Jersey title as a 1998 ,or was it 2004 Recon.Any way when the…[Read more]

The best news is that there is no protocol! But I like the idea of a project thread. In the MG TD Kit Cars section of the forum there is a “My Project” forum. Put your project thread there.

I have a Fiberfab model and a London Roadster. I bought two MG TD covers from Cover Craft, I believe and they fit fine. Workmanship and quality are top notch.

Hi Foghorn, Welcome to the forum. That is indeed a nice start!!!You’ll enjoy putting the finishing touches on it. If a body part has to be replaced, the apron would probably be on of the easier parts to find.I see it is still on the car, You could probably repair it if you cannot find one.

I just purchased this Design Classic kit car. It will need a few pieces to get her back in shape, but it’s a nice start.

Paul Mossberg replied to the topic windshield in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 9 months ago
I’ve never seen a TD windshield with a flat bottom.
The gasket used by most TD replicas is the same as an original. You can find it at Moss Motors. -

Hi foghorn!
Welcome aboard!
VW engine numbers are stamped on the crankcase under the generator support facing the rear. Find that and look it up here:http://lennysvw.com/type1chassis.htm
You didn’t ask, but some info on Design Classics Inc is in this thread:

Mystic, I checked my London Roadster’s windshield and the measurments are the same as yours. Some kits have taller windshields to comply with the minimum size requirements of some states, but every TD replica I know about has a curve at the bottom .I have never seen one that is flat accross the bottom of the windshield. Is it possible that your…[Read more]

Mystic,
Have you checked the Migi II assembly manual in the download section? Windshield installation is in the second section. Look at page 70 for the bottom seal installation.

I think that I remember that my MGTF had a simple piece of rubber running the width of the windshield under the bottom frame. This could possibly be cut from an old inner tube and affixed somehow underneath. The rubber flap then extended forward and “sealed” against the body under the windshield. When the windshield was layed down forward, th…[Read more]

Mystic,
My Fiberfab kit has the gas tank running the same direction as the windshield and up near the front firewall. Its the standard location for the FF kits. Just thought I’d let you know. I know very little about Migis…never have seen one other than in photos here.

Patrick K Smith replied to the topic windshield in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 9 months ago
My car has a Daytona MIGI plate inside the trunk above the gas tank. I am sure the fiberfab never had the tank in this orrientation. I think I will have to put the windshield back to its orriginal position ( to high ) then make a plate to cover the emty space, make a gasket to fit, then modifie the wipers to work atleast some.

I recently bought a MG TD Relpica from a boy in the Navy, he said the car was in good condition. I bought it from him, it needed the paint buffed out professionallly like he said, and new tires. I drove the car back from Florida, about 1200 miles with no problems. I advise that you get a mechanic to look at it before purchasing, if the seller…[Read more]

Larry Murphy replied to the topic Need advice on ride height in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 9 months ago
You are correct in saying that the shock should be in the center of it’s travel .However ,since the shock has NO ability to support weight, installing the correct length shock WILL NOT raise the height of the car.

Marc Lipsius replied to the topic Need advice on ride height in the forum VW Based Kits 13 years, 9 months ago
Then what would make the shock sit in it’s mounts at the bottom of it’s travel, instead of in the middle where it’s supposed to be? Where it is now seems to be compressed. Wouldn’t a good or a better shock, the same GR-2’s, be longer in the car with more distance between the the mounts and have a few inches of travel up and down? The limit of my…[Read more]
