Hey, Donna, welcome to the club!So you bought a VW-based car with no wheels? If that’s the case, Cip1 does have a fair selection. But there are many others. Cheapest might be a junk yard or your local craigslist, where steel wheels of all kinds can usually be had for $5-$10 each. You wire brush off the rust & hit ’em with some Krylon and they…[Read more]

Well I certainly hope that the previous reasercher that was working on my case,Is now sweeping Up cigarette butts in a walmart parking lot somewhere.
Like I said I am just very happy things have finally gone through with this car.
I had other options (including an original MG TD title)but wanted to go about it the right and legal way.

What we see appears to be nicely finished. What would a top cost?

Peter C. King replied to the topic Bumper Question in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 1 month ago
Is there a temper issue here? The back bar might be springier than flat bar stock. Could someone with a backbar out of the car suspend the ends and measure it under a specific load? i.e. load it until it defelcts 1″? That would tell us if bar stock would work.

newkitman replied to the topic Bumper Question in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 1 month ago
Checked everything I have and no back bars. So…I measured from 1 inch past each outer hole in the bumpers and carried the bumpers down to a local iron works place. He sold me two 1/4-inch thick x 1 1/2-inch wide stock that he cut to length and bent them slightly to match the curve of the bumpers.
46 inches for the front and 48 inches for…[Read more]

That is indeed a BCW. I can’t say they’re any better than other kits, but I do like mine.

Should be a few good days left in september to get out.Should also have what’s called an indian summer where it gets warm at the end of sept.,early oct..But at this point I would get out in the cold if I had to,as I’m one of them crazy ice fishermen so not bothered too much by the cold.
Just very happy someone at the state knew what they were doing. -

As a Kentuckian, bourbon is better anyway. I’m a bit biased, 80% of the worlds bourbon comes from an area within a 50 mile radius of my house!

The car in Conroe looks like a British Coach Works to me. These are among the better quality kits . Fold down windshield, thicker fiberglass than other brands. Just may be worth looking into even in the heat.

So true. To be fair, the seller does offer to send more photos and answer questions. Still, Conroe is a long way from San Antonio — especially in the triple-digit heat we’re having down here.

Peter C. King replied to the topic Fuel Line in the forum VW Based Kits 14 years, 1 month ago
Even hard copper is a relatively soft metal. The pan is steel. It will rub a hole in copper over time. That’s why fuel line is either hard steel or braided stainless steel. The braided line carries a warning about abrasion. Think about replacing what you have with steel. The bender isn’t expensive. Harbor Freight carries it. Line is available by…[Read more]

Isn’t this great Shane?
You asked about rechroming vs. buying new bumper faces…and we now have you doing ALL the work yourself!
Seriously, having built my own car with essentially NO experience and minimal tools (at least at the start), I believe you can do this work yourself.
I like BD’s quote, “Bolt first. But later.”
And I’ll add,…[Read more] -

Whoever built my car ran a length of fuel line from the tank then to a copper line run under the left floorboard along the pan and up into the engine compartment, then another fuel line to the filter and fuel pump. I may blow out the old line in the center tunnel to see if it is clean and unobstructed because I think my present line is a little…[Read more]

It sounds as if you have two lists to work on. One, is the set of tasks you need to complete to put the car on the road. Being able to drive is a big motivator. The second is the group of projects to make it pretty.
Road list: Mount hood, engine cover and seats, buy/install seat belts. install the bumpers as is. There’s not a lot of cashflow in…[Read more] -
