Located in Illinois, somebody might get a good deal with a little work.

August 23, 2011 at 10:02 pm #245970You’re getting pretty good at posting those links MGLR!
And doing a great job monitoring the ebay auctions for us!
Maybe I’ll buy a spare while I wait to get my Duchess back under my own roof!

August 23, 2011 at 11:53 pm #245971Yes, it took me a while to figure out the trick to making live links. You certainly gave me plenty of help. I look for current prices to stay on top of the market. I’m still bummed that my insurance agent wouldn’t go above $5,000 replacement value, but if there are decent ones coming in for less, I’m OK with my $100/yr premium. I’m in negotiations to start a new job next week, and that could limit my time on the boards and eBay searches.
On a side note, I’ve been coordinating sports car drives with my Honda S2000 group, the local Honda del Sol group and the local Miata club. When I was telling my girlfriend about my recent activities, she said that if I got a Miata it would be roadster hoarding! but I’m out of garage room and don’t see getting a Miata as long as I have the S2000.
August 24, 2011 at 8:18 am #245972Re insurance: when I called Hagerty (I think it was–could’ve been another company) they told me they wouldn’t put insurance on the car unless I told them the value was at least $10,000. I said I’d just got the car for $3,500 and, even assuming I’m a crackin’ negotiator & a truly savvy buyer, $5,000 would still be pushing it. The agent was pretty adamant that any specialty car must be worth at least $10k, and anyway why not just up the value and pay the premium–which was like $200.
I was, like, huh? What’s to stop me then from burning the thing, collecting my ten and buying two more TDs, then doing the same twice again? “Assuming the the supply of used TD replicas holds out, in three year’s time I could become a millionaire just by following your underwriting guidelines,” I told her. “Provided, of course, that I’m very unlucky.”
Then it was her turn to act confused.

August 24, 2011 at 9:37 am #245974Ed – I’ll tell you what will stop you. WE WILL! We won’t let you destroy all those lovely TD replicas.
Then there’s a little thing called insurance fraud. That’s a felony!
