Paul,
The color and finishes web site is a stunning addition to the forum. It will enable any of us who are striving for an authentic appearance to be more accurate. The grill and engine colors are a rare find. I can see a front engine replica with the correct engine and filter colors confusing people who don’t know what an original engine looks…[Read more] -

Thanks for all the replies and thoughts.
I like Larry and Paul’s idea of black carpet and then vinyl sides. Paul I think white on the sides will fit the color scheme better than black sides so decided to go with that. You say black carpet for the floors and the rear panel behind the seats. That makes sense because having white vinyl on that park…[Read more] -

Allen,That is how the Duchess is done. The seats, door panels, and side panels are all the same color (in my case, white). The carpet does not wrap up around the doors. The “side panels” begin under the dashe, run under the doors, and continue up the sides behind the seat back. The black carpet covers the floors, and the floor & rear panel of the…[Read more]

My original thought was a beige color carpet. Then sometime last week I changed to leaning towards Black. Not sure how the black carpet around the doors will look with the white door panels. I do like the idea of black vinyl.
Larry are you suggesting doing only the floor carpet in black and the side panels in white vinyl? Hmm……..something to ponder. -

I agree with Bd and Larry. When I look at my car I see the things I still need to do, but when others see it they look at it like it was on the showroom floor. I think what Larry said about “reminded of happier times” is right on the button. My car seems to get more response from people older than 45 and younger than 15 . The 20 somethings w…[Read more]

Allen, I vote for black carpet.I think it would go well with your color combinition. and if my memory is correct, the MGs all came with black carpet. Don’t know if you are trying to be as authentic as possible or just looking for a well matching interior ,it’s your car ,your choice.
I also prefer to do the side panels and the area behind the s…[Read more] -

In the 100 degree temps we have been running lately My oil temp seems to peak about 218-220 at 55mph, but eases down fairly quick to 205-210 when I back down on the speed. It also takes more than 5 miles to reach that temp. Im using Brad Penn 10-30 partial syntetic oil. Im not sure how much heat dino oil will take before it starts to cook. You…[Read more]

Montie, et al…The references to loss settlement will not be on your declarations page. Somewhere in the actual insurance contract, the policy language, there HAS to be a provision that defines how losses will be settled.I hate to send you back to the well Montie, but please go read the policy again.

I second what BDriver said. There is something special about these cars. The people who still remember the days gone by when they courted in ”a car like that”,as well as the people who realize that cars wern’t always built with the creature comforts that most people now consider necessities., they all are reminded of happier times when they s…[Read more]

Paul, my State Farm policy declaration page has the words ” Vehicle value ” and then $18,500. There is no ACV any place in the policy or dec. page. I’ll check with my agent and make sure of what it actually means.

Your London Roadster is show quality.
Cars in the Survivor class are prized as rolling examples of how a marque was originally assembled. Yours is even unrestored. What a find!
Besides, who expects what looks like a 60 year old car to be pristine.
You win just by being at a show. There will be more people looking at your TD replica than a…[Read more] -

Interesting, I have spoken to Hagerty, AmericanCollectors (classicins), and Classic Auto Ins., and none of them will insure a car in Florida unless it is kept in a locked 4 wall garage or storage facility. Anpac doesn’t insure any of these in Florida, ie, is “not available”. My house is up on pilings as per the building code where I live, and…[Read more]

UPDATE:I just spoke with the Phoenix, AZ owner of the VW based TD replica on Craigslist. He needs to sell as soon as possible. I wish my London Roadster was show quality. I feel there is still too much rust on places that are hard for me to get to, and cracks in the fiberglass that I would love to get repaired. And I’m still looking to get a showroom finish shine on her, too.
