Even better Allen…
By asking about “splash pans”, Bill Gould started an excellent discussion on proper cooling for VW based TD replicas.
So I changed the subject to match the topic.

Pink,
Would you have a photo or link to a photo of the seal around his engine compartment?
(Thread deviation for a moment)
While on the subject of engine tin and engine compartment seals, what does everyone use in front of the motor between the fan housing and the transaxle? I was thinking of fiberglassing in some screen door screen to keep out…[Read more] -

Caveat Emptor!
Makes you wonder if the seller is intentionally misrepresenting or just an idiot!

Thanks Mark, I thought that the LEDs would probably work ok when wired into the existing circuits but wanted to be sure befor I bought the lights.
Thanks for the Rodworx link. the accessory light #39193 looks like it would serve my purpose.Larry Murphy40759.5706018519 -

Amen Paul…he meant “engine tin” in VW talk.
BTW, my buddy’s Lafer has a pretty good seal around the engine compartment, almost like a real Beetle.Pink MG40759.5181134259 -

The car bidding started at $10,000 are you kidding!!!
He also said it has anti-lock brakes, a leather interior and it is correctly titled as a 1936???
I do not recall any air-cooled Beetle donor that came with anti-lock brakes or MG making a TD in 1936. I’ll bet this guy also doesn’t know the difference between vinyl and leather.

I guess I qualify too. Paul, may remember that guy I loaned it to. Quite a character.
The red book is the orange book. The VW crowd in the club I joined call it the red book. Technically it is orange though. -
Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic LED LIGHTS in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 9 months ago
Larry,
As long as the LED’s are wired into the same circuit as the incandescant bulbs, the amp draw is still there for a standard flasher to operate both sets of lights. In other words, you are just splicing them into to existing tail/stop/turn (1157) bulbs?
It’s when you use LED only that causes the need for the electronic flasher.

Amazing – their quote for a $7000 stated value and 50 mile towing is just about the same as Geico covering me for liability only!As soon as I get my car back from the engine rebuild to be finished today, I’m going to make the switch. Thanks for that one.

Not sure what he means by splash pans…
But all the stock VW cooling tin should be on your engine (including the pans that bolt on under the rocker arm tubes).
And as best you can, the engine compartment should be sealed to separate the exhaust form the engine.
On a stock VW, the cooling tin seals to the body sheet metal. On our cars, you will…[Read more] -

Haggerty has stated value insurance. If the car is totaled you get a check for the full value you have it insured for. Full coverage liability and comprensive, under and uninsured motorist as well same as any other vehicle. Even roadside assistance and towing is included. I have 3 cars wth them. You tell them a reasonable value you want the car…[Read more]

I have 2 cars insured with Geico and they also told me they won’t insure my car for anything other than my liability if I get into an accident. Not even the mechanical breakdown/towing insurance that’s on the other cars.I have to find another company that will insure the car for theft/vandalism and collision insurance also, like on the other…[Read more]

Montie: I carry State Farm on our house, my wife’s Taurus and my old Ford Ranger, but our agent (we’ve been with him since 1978) said they wouldn’t write coverage on a kit car. Tried to convince him that the Lafer isn’t a kit, but couldn’t. Ended up going with Hagerty, but don’t really know what I’d get if the Lafer were stolen or totaled.

The seller would probably say he’s giving you a great deal with a $12,000 Buy It Now!
I hope he gets it! He won’t. But it would be nice for all us owners if he did!

My insurance company (State Farm) required me to use their appraiser for a replacement value when I first bought it, $18,500, so mine is insured for that. Guess this guy on ebay really took it to heart as the selling value too.

cip1.com also has a wiring diagram on their web site:

Not as complete as the Classic Roadsters schematic. But has all the basics. -

The Classic Roadsters Ltd Duchess assembly manual includes full schematics.
They are are available in our Download Manuals section.

Do any of the kit manufacturers include a wiring diagram in the kit documentation? If we had a collection of those then someone could repair theirs or build a new one without trying to find an entire NOS harness.

Hee hee. Yeah, I edited the link in your post.
One thing I am NOT able to explain…when I paste a url into a post, sometimes the forum automatically recognizes the link. Other times I have to also paste the url into the link pop-up. No clue why it sometimes works differently. - Load More
