From my own experience…Original style fender mirrors are available with convex lenses. Once you have them adjusted, they provide an excellent view to each side. The original style side-windshield mount mirror attached through the slot in the fold down bracket. We’ll see what others have to say about other styles of side mount mirrors. I tried…[Read more]

Clark & Clark sells a “Protectice Knockoff Wrench”. It’s a 17 ply lamination that fits over the knock off. You still hit it with the hammer. $29.95.

The other way on this is to get a length of hardwood ply and cut a hole in it in the shape of your spinners. There’s your wrench.

I’m thinking like Edsnova on the vapor lock possibility. Just for grinzos, check your fuel supply line from the tank where it’s in the engine bay and see if its laying on the engine tin or resting against the cylinder head. And if you have a fuel filter in the engine compartment (usually a bad idea IMHO), I have heard that the filter can cause the…[Read more]

I used a Honda motorcycle mirror mounted to my “hinge” portion of my folding windshield. It is mounted high and is convex and shows me the whole world behind me! I had to fabricate a bracke out of aluminum, but it took only a few minutes.

We did find a leak in the fuel line last week, but thought that we had patched that up. It got pretty hot yesterday, maybe over 110 F- possible temps that air-cooled VW don’t like very much.I took her out again this evening after the sun was down and 15 miles each way she ran just fine. No adjustments from yesterday, just rest and cooler wea…[Read more]

Collinite is available through a distributor in Arizona, who show a location about 30 miles from me. Rats, I had wanted to wax Miss London tomorrow, but that will have to wait now. You guys caught me in the nick of time.

I use Dawn dish washing liquid as well (since it came out….Joy before that). For wax, I have, for the last 10 or 12 years used good ole Simonize car paste wax in the yellow gold can. Have to get it on eBay because thats the only place I can find it. Down to my last can and a half. newkitman40710.8878819444

Thank you to everyone so far. These tips are fantastic. I’ve discovered a lot of small cracks and peeling on my car. It is not painted but I don’t know what to do or who to take it to for repair work. Could that be from temperature extremes? The Simple Green got rid of most of the grease and dirt. Tomorrow I’ll try washing her when it’s sti…[Read more]

I just did the gas gauge on Bridget. Removed the old Classic Instruments gauge–which never read full–and replaced it with the in-speedo gauge from a ’72 Bug.Turned out the used speedo I got had a bad vibrator too, and the sending unit for the CI gauge was no good for the stock VW gauge. So I followed these troubleshooting tips (same, really, as…[Read more]

Heard of it. They made ’em for the MG too; they’re rare and expensive now.I suspect there is a reason you don’t see a lot of blowers on these cars today, and I suspect the reason has to do with heat and parts failures. But this is only a suspicion, and not based on any VW knowledge.I would love to see one of our members set one up and run it. I’d…[Read more]

You will find Dawn dishwashing detergent in most glider pilots’ wash buckets. It strips oil well. That’s important when you are trying to clean bugs from leading edges. It also leaves the gelcoat with a silky feel. -
Peter C. King replied to the topic Bath and Shampoo in the forum General Discussion 13 years, 10 months ago
Stick with Carnuba wax. Miracle waxes with “polymers” on the label use silicons to achieve that wet look on clear coat. It works on fiberglass cars too, but it penetrates the gelcoat and migrates into and through the fiberglass underneath. Any repair to the fibrglass requires powerful solvents to strip the silicon out of the glass long enoug…[Read more] -

If you have one of those spray ends that has different choices use the one labeled (flat spray) and that way it is easy to spray down w/o getting the
inside wet. I don’t even have a top and clean mine all the time in this
manner. -

It would work with the guage.
My only question is, will it work with your custom tank? If the VDO sending unit is like the stock VW, you may still have a problem.
That is why I went to a generic sending unit, that I could cut to the exact dimension needed for my tank.PMOSSBERG40710.6670023148 - Load More
