The guy who sold his TF (’54 TF; real TF) deflector swore it worked awesome. He’d sold the car and the new buyer didn’t want it. Seems to me it would work pretty well. The buffeting comes from the vacuum created in the space behind our big, flat windscreens. I find that it’s reduced some when I run Bridget with the small Brooklands screens up and…[Read more]

“Show bar” roll bars can fit under the canvas, but will do you little good, and maybe even some harm, if you ever do flip it. A real bar will be too high for the roof. I had a thought of making a bayonet mount for a roll bar, but I doubt that would really work without a lot more engineering than I’m capable of. Probably would not pass SVRA…[Read more]

I am all-in on the doo-rag. In fact, I just requested from my wife a Union Jack-patterned doo-rag for my birthday. Those who have met me know I am quite balding. So why? To NewKitman’s question, then:Sunburn. No hair means the sun beats down on my head directly, but a clean shave up there would allow for neat application of sun screen. It’s an…[Read more]

Paul…now there’s an idea. But what do we balding guys need with a doo rag?

Uh yeah, pretty much!
And as a practical matter, you will not get a roof over a roll bar, at least not a roof that follows the normal TD roof line.

To comment on the motor oil issue, I just read the article on Classic Oils’ site and was convinced to buy some for my old Type 1 engine. Great advice on adjusting the valves. Make sure you put it in a position to be worked on the night before you do the adjustment. – From the John Muir book.

Keep something in mind about VW valves. They are actuated by solid lifters; steel shafts that are pushed up directly by the cam. Valve seats erode slowly, particularly exhaust valve seats. Over time, VW valves tighten up.
Then there are the heads. Aluminum. Head bolts are steel. Over time the heads squash. You have to check the torque on the h…[Read more] -

I forgot about the current TF. Still, it’s the thought that counts when you’re trying to talk her into riding in a convertible.

All,
Hope Johann isn’t reading this ’cause I told him I parked it for him, but I had to take it for one more short nostalgic back road ride. That car is still Sweeeet! Hope he enjoys it as much as I did! If you’re reading this Johann, I was VERRRY gentle!
Still hate to see it go, but I’m happy with the sale price
,
Thanks to you all!

Go to Google Images, search for “MG TD Vintage Racing” and you’ll see a bunch of examples. It seems most have a single hoop, with rear or front facing supports. http://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&hl=en&source=h p&biw=1600&bih=1007&q=mg+td+racing&btnG=Sear ch+Images&gbv=2&oq=mg+td+racing&aq=f&aqi=&am…[Read more]

One other idea, if you are installing a roll bar, fabricating a removable insert would be apiece of cake.

I watched the bidding on this car. The price went up by $1200 in the last minute. I’m sure that Rich was relieved. The winner won with a snipe with 13 seconds to go. Nicely done. Nice car too. -

You’re thinking right. I’ve not seen it though. Say, with that 8 up front, shouldn’t you be thinking roll bar anyway?

I’ve never seen an air deflector for MG TCs, TDs or TFs.If you hear someone talk of a deflector for an MG TF, it is probably for the late model MG TF introduced in 2009. Like this one:
Never thought about it before. But I could imagine fabricating one out of lexan or plexi-glass. Attach a couple u-channels to the left and right outer edges of the…[Read more]

No pics. I saw a custom one on ebay last year and it went for hundreds. Thought I grabbed a pic but can’t find it.Easy build though. Get a piece of one-by hardwood (furniture grade) and a piece of c-channel stainless or aluminum. Some clear 1/4-inch plexi and some hinges. Wood on the bottom, then hinge to plexi so it can fold down when not in use.…[Read more]
