If your car was a little bit closer I’d get it in a heart beat. I was wondering if you still had it for sale! Do you have it stored inside? I just bought (and building) a TD with a V6 and 4 speed and am putting a lot of money into the car even after the guy I bought it from said it all was there!

If someone will measure the height from the seat base to the top of the seat cushion and let me know I can have my friend measure the height of his bug seat cushion and compare. I think the bug seat cushion frame with the springs etc might be a little high nbut doable if you use the spring bas rather than the piece of wood.
Thanks -

I’ve tried several types of foam and so far NONE have held up for much over and hour. I’m in the process of cutting in the hole idea and going to try a heavy canvas materal or a web then a 1/2 in thick very firm (almost solid) foam then the original foam and 1 in of memory foam. The wife has suggested just using something like a bean bag chair…[Read more]

Richard,
You should order the BugMe Video series CDs. Even though I’ve beenrebuilding VW engines and bugs since 1979, I still have the entire set. Check them out. -

Update:
I decided to try a fix on my seats over the weekend using seat strapping I bought at a upholstry shop. I cut out the center of my seat plywood and used the stapping underneath – seems to work real well. I will need to take it on a long drive when the weather gets better – I may need to tighten up the straps a bit if I sink down to much. I…[Read more] -

See? That’s why I have only two old cars (my Duchess and a 65 Plymouth) but seven guitars and a mandolin. Cheaper and easier to justify!

Paul,Yes, car people are nuts. I drove 200 miles (round trip) today to check out a classic dealership (Black Tie, in Strathmore, NJ) that was closed! Of course, we “visited” a couple of other places on the way.

There is A Daytona MIGI, Vw chassis on Craigslist in Louisville Ky. It is rough with no title or interior, but does have a grill and all body parts including a luggage rack. My wife says tow is enough, so have at it. They are asking $1200, but I have a feeling that they would take less.

Roger that, Paul. And Redd– right on re the “patina!” I’m a big believer in the theory that a little pitting on the chrome and even a little rust on the bumpers gets these cars tons of unearned authenticity points. It also makes it easier to drive them without getting too worried about what might happen. Win-win.

Redd,Street Rods can be fendered or not fendered. And whether they are or not has nothing to do with being eligible for the Street Rod title in NJ.It is actually the reverse that is true, you can not title or register a “normal” car with no fenders.Buying sight unseen is never recommended, in particular with a car that may have been built 30…[Read more]
