Thanks guys.Believe me, I’ve been looking everywhere. Samba, autabuy, autotraderclassics, hemmings, ebay…. Most everything’s either in CA or FL. Guess I just don’t feel comfortable buying unseen. Run across too many horror stories about inaccurate descriptions, etc. Not looking for perfect. Actually, probably prefer something that’s NOT close to…[Read more]

The ad reads:
“1952 MG TD, This car has been fully restored from the ground up this past year. Has new paint, interior, and chrome parts. This is a Fiber Fab kit from the late 70’s. the frame and motor are from a 1975 VW BUG. Great car f…[Read more] -

Paul, It’s a hollow victory. I have looked at my London Roadster many times since I got it in 1994 and wondered why they didn’t lengthen the hood by 2 or 3 inches so they could have used a full length grille.I think they were trying to keep the body measurments the same as the original MG or so I’ve heard.A couple of extra inches would also have…[Read more]

Larry wins this round.
I just took another look at the London Roadster ad on the TD History, replicas page and the grill is indeed, shorter than an original grill. -

Removing the grille shell should not be too difficult, Try to determine what material it is made of and be sure that the plating shop you choose can redo it.

Riley, Look in fareoh’s and Redhill’s photo gallery . All London Roadsters I have seen use a grille that is about 3” shorter than the original MG with the exception of Redhills car. On London Roadsters the grille shell sits on top of the VW suspension instead of in front of it .That’s why they use a shorter grille. On my London Roadster, the…[Read more]

The answer to this one is not good news riley.
I believe the London Roasdster uses a reproduction original style MG-TD grill shell and grill bars.
The MG -TD grill is not currently being reproduced.
And if you find on on ebay or anyother auction/selling site, you will pay hundreds…and hundreds…of dollars!
I believe your best bet will be to h…[Read more] -

Classic Roadsters Ltd.’s Duchess was available in VW and front engine versions.
At one point, Classic Roadsters Ltd. was even demoing a front engine V6 Duchess, although I don’t recall if they ever produced any. -

PM me for data on Lance Motors.
There are plenty of TD replicas available if you look. Again IMHO, if you can find a British Coach Works (BCW) or Classic Roadsters Ltd. (Duchess) they are the top of the line replicas.
The BCW is came VW and Chevette based. The Duchess came VW based for sure, but Paul would know better if they came in a front e…[Read more] -

Hey Pink MG,
Thanks for the heads up on lance. Though, may I ask why? Drove past their place and it seemed seedy enough.
As for the out of state RECON titles, that seems to make sense. But the car I was originally considering (before finding this site) had no fenders, wipers, bumpers, seat belts, and who knows what other “safety” stuff. And even…[Read more] -

Thanks Paul for posting this. Since I don’t have an MSO I’ll have to get a Surety Bond. The rest is fairly straight forward. I think this will help the entire group.
