Worked on carb and seems much better. Then decided to change distributor to HEI. That is now installed. But no test drive because I had a few minutes available and removed heater. So now I have holes in firewall that need to be covered. I also have a lot of space where heater used to be. Am thinking of putting the radiator overflow tank…[Read more]

My engine would overheat just sitting in the driveway running (with hood on). I believe it was a weak pusher fan that just could not handle the heat. So I got a Spal puller fan, changed to 160 degree thermostat, and added an oil cooler. The car now runs at about 165-170 sitting in the driveway. with the hood off. Due to some medical issu…[Read more]

Hey Everybody!
I was wondering the same thing…My wife recently bought a new car and she doesn’t even need a key in the ignition! All she has to have is the key fob and push a button when she’s in the car! Then to stop the car, she just pushes a button. It’s pretty cool! If you don’t have the key fob, the car won’t start…I was wondering if it…[Read more]

Scubasteve,
I just tapped into the red and purple wires at the Chevette ignition switch and ran
them to a heavy duty momentary contact switch I mounted in the dash.

Bob replied to the topic mg magic gas tanks… coated? in the forum VW Based Kits 7 years ago
Curiously enough, I expected a replacement tank I got from Jbugs to be coated inside. Like you say, that’s what is usually said about them.
There was a note saying it was sent without that coating, and yet their web page has a prominent warning about the coating needing to be cleaned out.

I didn’t know that tanks were coated, like that. I’ve been looking at the tanks from SoCal Speed Shop. I’ll remember to ask, when I’m ready to upgrade mine…

So glad that no body was hurt. I’m so sorry to see all the damage but if it had to happen, I’m happy that it was with someone who knows how to get her back on the road…I don’t know what I would’ve done…

Hard to tell from the video, but the timing is easy to play with. Play with that, then start looking at wiring.

Interesting problem and my money is on a voltage drop at the starter or solenoid switch. Bad ground or some hidden trouble in one of the big red wires.
Bridget’s been doing something similar: starts up every time in the garage, but if I park her of 20 minutes or a half hour she no turn over. An hour an a half it’s like in the garage: easy go.

By the way, Roy suggested that the problem may be that the ignition is to far advanced. He said to 1st pull the center distributor wire going to the coil and try to turn over the engine. If the hesitation goes away, it is probably timing set too f…[Read more]

Sorry —
I have a pull switch instead of the “start” position on the ignition key switch — (too much time around Ed — I had to make it act like a “real” TD or like my Bugeye — just a mechanical 2 contact pull switch that applies 12v to the starter solenoid ….
My key has just 2 positions on/off for the ignition — overkill? — yea…[Read more]

Well, I’m still waiting for the radiator to come back from the repair shop, I put the car back up on stands. The parking brake cable bracket that had somehow broken in the first crash in June at Pagoda. It was one of the few things that were welded in place at the factory. We cut off what was left with a wizzer and installed a new redesigned…[Read more]
