Cool stuff, Mark. Someone should’ve told me that in 1992.
In Bridget’s case I might do just as well to replace the solenoid with a stock bug piece, or the starter or starter/solenoid if they’re together (don’t even know yet). She’s all pretty stock and doesn’t seem to be running especially hot; I think the part might just be due for…[Read more] -

Mark, Thanks for the solution and the diagram to show how to hook it up. If I understand correctly, this does not solve the problem of a faulty solenoid ,but does make sure that enough voltage is reaching the unit to insure that it is able work properly.
Ed ,Becky was very experienced with the ”screwdriver start method ” when a 69 Camaro was o…[Read more] -

Starter solenoid “heat soak” can be solved very easily. It’s the solenoid, not the starter motor that is the problem.
I did it on the GM style mini-starter on my Mustang roadracer and will also do it on my 4.3L Chevy V6’s mini-starter in my ’40 Ford streetrod.
It’s an old Hot Rodder/Racer trick of using a remote FoMoCo style solenoid. I use a…[Read more] -

Larry, I was thinking the same thing myself. What a coincidence if it is!

Thanks, Larry. I’ll try the headlight test, and maybe put the boat battery in her and try that.
So I reached in this morning and turned the key and she started right up as usual.
This makes me suspect a heat sink effect on the starter/solenoid. Used to get that with the Chevy II. The headers ran right past and sort of curved around the starter.…[Read more] -

Larry, Yes we still have the chevette based kit. We had stopped all work on it previously knowing that if we worked on both we would never get the migi done, but now that we are so close to finished with the migi we have started working on the chevette again. We just painted the frame and now have a cleaned and painted rolling chasis. with engine…[Read more]

I might be interested in your wheel baskets. My baskets are Western Wheel and showing some rust and missing the center plastic cover on two of them, other than that they look good. What will you be asking for them?

Ed, Check all the connections, begining at the battery. It may be getting a good enough connection to work the small stuff but not the starter. If all connections are good, disconnect the small wire on the starter solonoid and see if you have current to the end of the wire with the switch in the ”start” position. If you do ,it’s probably the…[Read more]

I think that all the kits with the split front apron are Fiber Fab /CMC, but I think some of the early Fiber Fab kits used a front apron that was raised on the left side to clear the steering box and column extension, and was bolted to the fenders. An example of this is the Leprechan that is in the for sale ad on the forum. However ,I don’t know…[Read more]

Guys…aren’t the FiberFab/CMC cars all built with the front fenders molded with half an “apron”…the apron under the grille shell? So, that leaves a “split” in that apron? That used to be the dead give away to identify FiberFab/CMC TD’s.
Both of my CMC cars, one Ford based and the other VW based, had these split aprons. The Ford version fe…[Read more] -

Will. It’s good to hear that you are on the road again and having a good time with your car. Do you still have the Chevette based car and if you do, how is the work on it going? I’m looking forward to seeing pictures of the build.
