Ringo hit the bulls-eye.
I have the same issue with my MG and when I’m filling my 1965 Plymouth.
The vapor recovery systems on today’s pump nozzles cause the pump to be over-sensitive to back-pressure. The straight run into my Plymouth and MG gas tanks allows the air/vapors to “rush” back to the nozzle to quickly; confusing the pump into t…[Read more] -

Ah, that’s how we like you. Keep your mouth shut.
The NJRC guys will know I don’t mean that. For everyone else…I’m kidding! -

Gang Most modern pumps have much more sensitive nozzles than even a few years ago. Seems too many people causing too many spills. Since the pump cut off relies on back pressure the only solution is to not put the nozzle in as far when fueling and to slow down a little. A little extra time sure beats a spill on your paint.Ringo

Rob,
I have almost the same problem. If I put the nozzle all the way in, it clicks off and won’t pump. If I pull the nozzle about half way out and try to pump full force, it again clicks off. The only way it works well is held about halfway out of the filler opening and about half squuezed on the pump handle. Then I just finesse it up until I see…[Read more] -

Welcome back Mark. Haven’t seen you around here for a while.
Maybe it’s just me. But the phrase “organic lube” somehow sounds disturbing. I’m just sayin’ -

The synthetic oil GREATLY reduces oil temps, but the residual heat from the headers did not help. The fan inhaled hot air and passed it back over the oil cooler and engine. A clogged or restricted oil cooler will cause problems too.
I have a ’74 VW that I just changed from an uncoated “extractor” to a ceramic coated system. It runs much cooler now…[Read more] -

The bottom of the shifter stick has a fork that fits over a piece that is held on the shift shaft by a roll-pin. There is a little nylon “clip” that fits over this piece and receives the shifter lever fork. If this is missing or shot, you may be aboe to get one from Rick Drake, the Chevette Man in Everett, Washington. He had only a couple NOS ones…[Read more]

The stalling would happen after I sat at a long red light. It would run rougher and rougher until it quit. It was idling at about 900 rpm, and would keep running if I kept my foot on the gas and the idle 1200 – 1500. It would skip and sputter even at that. As soon as I took off and got moving, it would clear right up. I think you are right, it was…[Read more]

Mel,I just did a bunch of wandering around dune buggy web sites. The more I see, the more I think the mirror you selected will work. At worst you might have to grind away a bit of the inner surface to match the exact contour of your frame.

Mel,Missing in all the alledged jocularity is an actual answer to your question about the frame dimensions. I did not get a chance tonight but will try tomorrow (unless someone beats me to it).I can tell you the shape of the inset on the mirror you are considering is correct in the way it tapers towards the front.Just from memory, the windshield…[Read more]

Vapor lock usually occurs when the car has been run and turned off, The gas in the line overheats, vaporizes and you cannot restart the car.It takes more heat to vaporize the gas when it’s flowing, so your engine compartment must have been really…really hot.And about the “flowing gas is cooler” thing….when I was a teenager, my next door…[Read more]

On my BCW with the Chevette engine and transmission ,the shifter assembly fits through a hole in the tunnel and the bolts to remove the shifter are above the top of the tunnel , covered only by the shifter boot and the carpet. If your problem is deeper in the transmission the tunnel which is originally attached with pop rivets will probably need…[Read more]

Thanks for the comments. Another clue: after the engine was up to temperature, it would stall at red lights. I noticed when I would get home, that the gas was bubbling in the clear plastic of the fuel filter. Hummmmm…..vapor lock ? I rerouted the fuel line when I changed the muffler and it never stalled once today. Possibly the engine c…[Read more]
