Ringo, we are getting your left over rain over here. Everytime I put my hand on the toolbox to work on the car in the driveway, here comes the rain. I believe the old original T-series used a measuring stick to dip into the tank rather than an electrical gauge. I think my fill is a direct drop into the tank so a stick may be my backup…[Read more]

I was so burned out over the Suburban’s transmission debacle (no pun intended) that I didn’t take any pictures with my camera. Larry’s grandson took several of the off-loading process in Larry’s driveway on Mother’s Day though. Maybe he can post them?

BCW never made 500 cars in total. They were only in business a few years, 1980-85
The Schweppe’s Giveaway cars were built from a fleet purchase of Chevette Scooters for donors. Although one was supposed to be given away in all 50 states and 50 cars were supposedly produced, my information was that less than 50 were actually built. Some remote…[Read more] -

Geoff; It has set a record for rainfall here this May
Luckily, we had some real nice weather in March and April and I put over 300 miles on the Duchess. She is running better than ever, in fact, I had to check my speed with a GPS since she seemed to getting up to speed too quick. The linkage on the Weber progressive has been getting more of a work…[Read more]

Sometimes ebay will have those, but rarely. I finally removed my little rusty ones and watched ebay. Several times I have seen the original MGTD parts show up at a good price. I have found a lot of items on ebay lately for MGTD.

Dan is right about getting the cover off from the backside. I had to remove mine to get to the sending unit. I finally found a bad ground feeding the gauges like what Ringo was talking about. I did clean up the sender, which is a very simple mechanism. I remounted the spare mount to the outside of the fake tank housing this time like Dan did and…[Read more]

Hi Dave,
I still have all the manuals from my car. I’m not sure of any diagrams of the pinto rear in them, but I’ll check tonight.
Good Luck,

Thanks. The manual is what started me down this path! It trapped me in with it’s simple sketches. You are right, I can most likely duplicate the brackets, was looking for a short cut!
Does anybody have pics of a Pinto rear before covering it up with the body? Again, maybe a frame for sale will pop up as well. Have been looking on E-ba…[Read more] -

Montie , The easy way is to remove the tire mount cover from under the car you should be able to reach the nuts if you can’t get at them or won’t move you can use a Dremel cut wheel . When I replaced the cover , I used the type nut that have spring clips attached to them slide on type and used 1/4 X 1 bolts that way I can remove the cover easl…[Read more]

I’ve got the same problem with my (CMC Ford) TD (gas gauge not working). I started at the fuses, all were ok;; then using a stick light started testing to see where I had power. Got power at the gauge (got it to peg full anyway when the light came on). Lastly I went to the sending unit, after removing the left rear tire, and getting in …[Read more]

Thanks Ringo!
You are a wealth of information as always. I will start at the tank and check the float.
Have you been out cruising? How’s she running?I’m planning on going to some smaller jets in my carb, replacing the muffler, and then I’m going to start looking into intake manifolds!!!

Geoff;
It’s great to hear that you’re giving Stella some good long runs.
So many problems seem to stem from bad grounds, esp on cars like ours, and ones that are getting driven for the first time in a long time. I’d check the ground on the sending unit first. Are other gauges OK?
Fuel gauges don’t go bad as often as the sending units. I’d st…[Read more] -

Hi Dave,
If you go to the home page you can download manuals. There is a complete FiberFab Ford kit manual. Although the diagrams are not dimensioned, you’ll get a good idea of the construction. Are you intending to build a TD replica? Be prepared, I think the Manual (PDF File) is over 90 pages.
Hope this helps.

Toma, The VW bumpers are too curved for TD replicas. MG MAGIC probably has the correct ones for your car. The address and phone # are in the links section of this forum. Good luck with your project.

Rich,
One thing I have noticed is that these cars do not like the cold. When I had the car in Buffalo it was only driveable 3 months out of the year. Mainly because it hates to run in the cold weather. On a side note I just recently had to replace the solenoid on my starter too. I racked up about 300 miles on my “Stella” in the past 2 weeks,…[Read more]

Prologue,
As many of you know, I registered this car at the beginning of May and have been driving the heck out of it ever since. That same starter that I complained about ‘ad nauseum’ with the intermittent “premature spinning” problem has definitely “healed”. It has not ever exhibited the same problem since the temps went above 50 degrees. Go figure!
