Geoff,
Great Imagery! You know, I think the V6 is an advantage because I find it to be very stable at highway speeds. I haven’t gone much over 75, but it’s a smooth 75. I have to be a little careful. Bright red sports cars going fast are a bit of an attraction to the State and Local “Serve, Protect and Make the Ticket Quota” brigade.
The weather…[Read more] -

Thanks for the suggestion about the clutch. Even though it is an automatic stick will check that first. Was able to figure out some other problems. A mechanic friend of my son looked at it and helped with the carb install. He also set the timing and points etc. After rechecking them today, and looking at my “idiots” manual, found that he had…[Read more]

Like all diagnosing…start with the easy stuff. Hopefully you hit it! And get to stay away from stuff like the clutch itself is slipping.Good luck S&P

Steve & Peggy,
Jsut want ot make sure we have the scenario correct, with foot off the gas, you push the clutch in and put it in gear. Without doing anything else, the engine idle drops. Right?
And grinding when you put it in gear? At first blush, it sounds like the clutch is not fully engaged. It’s engaged enough that you can put it in gear, but o…[Read more] -

Hi to all,
It has been sometime since visiting the site, just been to busy. Still working on the engine (VW). I have fixed the problems with the carb, just put a new one on, amazing it worked! Then found out we had to put a new alternator in. What a job that was, but had fun doing it. I can actually get it to start now without a jump and i…[Read more] -

Offset is how far (+ or -) from the center of the wheel the bolt surface is. I think your are referring to Backspace.
Check out the wheels on the Pink MG. These are Chevette pattern (4 x 100mm) wheels with the correct backspace. I bought them from U.S. Wheel in 2005. They are Series 97 wheel, 14 x 6.
There are also shops that can make any 4 x 100…[Read more] -

The finned, cast cover on the oil pump is NOT an indication of full flow oiling. There is a “plugged” boss area adjacent to that cover that needs to be drilled and tapped for a hose fitting. Some blocks have a small freeze plug there. If you don’t have that port drilled tapped and an oil line hooked to it, it’s not full flow. A remote filter p…[Read more]

Yeah Rich,
The reflections in the chrome, and gelcoat as you pass by the scenery definitely add to the experience. I noticed that on the highway the lack of aerodynamics (perticularly in the front fenders) makes for a shakey ride. Other than that, for an 1800# car it drives like a dream.
My Crane cam definitey makes the Idle a little rough…[Read more] -

I’m waiting on a front disc conversion to arrive in order to drive the car. When I bought it, I was only able to drive it on my trailer because the front drum brakes were out. While anxiously waiting I decided to due a tune up because the car sat in a garage for several months. In order to get to #3 spark plug I pulled the carb off that side and…[Read more]

All Webers and Dellorto are 2 bbl carbs. I supect you have the dual 40mm Solex carbs that are commonly called “Dual Kadrons”.
These carbs perform well on a stock or mildly warmed up VW Type 1 engine. They are easy to rebuild and tune. Much more low end torque than the single carb Weber/Holley progressive 2 bbl.
Stock dual port heads make more low…[Read more] -

Rob,
Our cars should sit at about the same level because they are both the same Ford suspension components (I think), but your’s is definitely lower in the rear. Let me know if you need any specifics on how mine is set up.
My speedometer is overstating speed by about 5 MPH. Not bad, but if you find a cheap source for alternate gears, I’d like to…[Read more] -

Rich, I have a 65 Cobra (FFR replica) in Ma this car is housed in Moultonboro, NH so it’s a Northern toy. Now if I only had more time to enjoy all the toys.
Hopefully it will get me to the ice cream shop and back this weekend. Still have some work to do on it but hopefully nothing that will stop me from enjoying it this summer.
