  •  Hi Everyone, I agree that Allisons are great replicas and this one is really nice ,however the info states transmission ”unspecified” and in the interior pics I notice a wide brake pedal and no clutch pedal. Looks like an auto stick shift to me.If that is acceptable to the buyer. OK,but it should have been clearly stated in the ad.

  • I’m going to buffalo ny on Sunday to hopefully pick up a Jaguar xk-120 kit unbuilt as a retirement project.  I purchased it and pending inspection will complete the transaction.  Ebay does make me nervous but so far this transaction seems fine.

  • Hi,
I’m finding that if I search Ebay using MG T Series, I always seem to catch a few that I didn’t see in other searches.
Check this one out. Don’t know where you’re located, but if you are in the vicinity of Maryland, you might want to look it over. Allison kits are really well built replicas.

  • Hey Rich.
    Great advice!
I think the key point is the in person inspection, by the buyer or someone they trust, someone knowlegeable about kit cars.
Location, location, location are the first three rules of real estate. I think our equivalent would be inspection, inspection, inspection.
To the forum members, if you are considering a car outside…[Read more]

  • I was bored too. So, today there are 3 TD replicas listed on eBay. However, they are all incorrectly listed under the MG heading. Not one TD is listed in the Kit/Replicar area.
They usually do this intentionally if they are dealers (which at least one of the listings is). It may be a dumb mistake for the private owners, but misleading just the sa…[Read more]

  • Hey Bob,
I was bored and cruising Ebay. I noticed 2 different kits. Both are nice and both are VW based MGs.
Item number: 320340197713,in Eugene Oregon and Item number: 110350623931 in Kensington MD. Check em’ out if you get a chance both are still under $1,000 but have a lot of time left still.

  • Hey Captain Bob…
    Several things to consider are:
    1. The make of the kit (some were very high quality/some were not great quality)
    2. Who built the car (professional builder/backyard mechanic)
    3. How the car it titled (VERY IMPORTANT). This often causes the biggest headache of getting it registered and on the road.
    4. What is the kit donor ca…[Read more]

  • Hey Rob, this stuff is chopper gun fiberglass…a Dremel tool would work. Maybe even an Exacto Blade!

    Bob:
Nice work, and I love how unique it looks.  Keep the picutres comng as you finsih her off.

  • Now that I got it all back together again 🙂
Great suggestion but can I use a hole saw 🙂
I’ll have to look and see could be a little difficult getting everything lined up.  Small peep hole first to see if I get close. Thanks for thinking out of the box.
It certainly would be easier then taking the whole frontend apart.

  • Hi Bob,
Welcome to the Forum. I have to say that the info you will get from the club veterans is quite accurate. I have seen only one actual sale over $7K in the last several months. On the other hand I have seen few replicas for sale that match the condition and quality that you will find in the best of our members gallery. I don’t want to…[Read more]

  • Hi Bob,
There are many types of kits, and many grades of quality.
You have to decide if you like front or rear engine kits, also then dicide on a manufacturer.
As far as front engine kits, they come on different platforms(chevette, pinto, mustang etc.) and also engines (usually 4 or 6 cylinder, but I have also seen some v8s too) Not to me…[Read more]

  • Hi Bob,Welcome to the TD forum.Price (like beauty) is in the eye (checkbook?) of the beholder. But I think it’s safe to say that most well finished TD kits will sell around the $5,000 range. I’ve seen ’em advertised for $20k, but don’t recall ever seeing one sell for that.On the other end, we’ve heard stories on this forum of folks finding real…[Read more]

  • Hey Bob,
I second Mark’s (PinkMG)’s comment. Get the rear aligned before you do anything else. If it’s just ride height that is an issue after that, there are adjustable settings on the rear torsion tubes.
Larry is correct that a VW based TD kitcar has a rear bias to the weight distribution.
But…and it’s a big but (no pun intended), our kits are…[Read more]

  • HAhaha! It’s no big deal And yeah MG Magic should join the 21st century. I think Brad is an old school guy and going modern might be too much for him.
It dosen’t bother me either way if the info gets posted, after all this is a forum for enthusiasts, not a swap meet! I just get excited when I find neat MG related stuff to share.
    Bottom line,…[Read more]

  •  Hi Bob,I’m in Reidsville ,north of Greensboro. First let me say put more trust in the advice that Pink MG & PMossburg give than thing I might say. They both have far more knowledge and years of experience compared to me .Sometimes I tend to cut corners and look for a cheaper way which is most likely not as good, however necessity has been called…[Read more]

    Bob,
That car is stinkin gorgeous! I love the modern stylized look. the windshield is awesome chopped, I love the roll bars, cool color! I can’t wait to see pics of her finished.

  • How about a couple of well placed holes in the firewall to access those two bolts?
They’d only have to be large enough to clear the O.D. of the socket you use.
You could cover them with plugs. I did this with a race car and used a Unibit to make neat holes.

  • I apologize if I hurt feelings. Believe me, we appreciate that Geoff got the data that he did. Geoff is a valued member of the TD Replica site.
My reply was based on previous experience with vendors and other “private” forums. We all share our knowledge to include the vendors we have experiences with, but we should not play favorites and post…[Read more]

  • You got it right I got all but two the two top most bolts holding the trans to the engine.  I could feel the heads of the bolts but no way of getting a wrench in there.
Will get to this flywheel some day when I can’t stand the starter engagement noise any longer.  Need to add the auto trans fluid and take it around the block to hear the muffler b…[Read more]
