Thanks:
It has a ford Pinto under it’s skin (with a Automatic Transmission) which is how I sold the wife on buying it.
I am currently in NY, but the car is in Florida at my home there.
The engine is running a bit rough, but I think it just needs the carb cleaned and a tune up. The car has only 3K miles and was sitting, while the former owner’s…[Read more] -

Hi,
Congrats on your new purchase. It’s a beauty! What’s under the hood? Need more Photos. Need more stats.
Also, Where are you? Looks like somewhere warm where you can actually drive that baby! I’m Jealous!!

Hi and welcome to the forum. That is a good looking TD replica. It seems that most of our new members all have red front engine cars, not that that is not a good thing. It just makes me want a front engine car myself.
Enjoy your new toy and keep us informed of your adventures.

Rich Bellefeuille replied to the topic How do I get my wings ? in the forum VW Parts Wanted 16 years, 3 months ago
Hi Chuck,
Just wondering if you ever found a source for the Wind Wings? Mine are pretty badly “crazed” from the sun and I’d like to replace them. I’m thinking that good quality 1/4″ thk Plexiglass would do the trick. Just concerned on the cutting and getting the right look on the beveled edges. Let me know what you decided to do.
Thanks,

Chuck,I just took a closer look at the photos in your gallery. It looks like the turn signals are mounted directly to the fender without a mounting pad.You need part #281-068 from Moss Motors ($3.80 a pair). It’s #1 in teh diagram at the following site: http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexI D=32859

Hi Chuck,Is that your white Duchess in the photo gallery? Your posting mentions VW turn signals, but the ones in the photos are reproduction TD turn signals. There is room within the reproduction turn signals to make the wiring connections, so that the only thing under the fender is the wire leading into the body. I suggest you simply remove the…[Read more]

Geoff,
The guy that built my car said that at the time he built it he was told that the Ford 2.8L V6 was the biggest engine that would fit in the front engine version of the FiberFab design. The Ford V6 fits only because it is a 60 degree configuration vs the typical 90 degree on most V6s and V8s. That makes this engine much narrower. So, you c…[Read more] -

Hi Chuck; My Duchess had heat shrink and body seam sealer on the under fender parts. When I replaced one of the lights, the underneath had less corrosion than what was under the glass! So, I did the same when I changed it. Silicone (Auto Goop?) might do as well.Ringo

Wow! Thanks alot Rich! I’ll try it out as soon as I get the car in PHX. I found a company that will ship it for about $1,000. Just waiting for an extra thousand bucks to come around!Seems like every time I have the money, the wife has better plans for it!
Thanks again for the info, I hope that that’s the issue, I was about to just get a new…[Read more] -

Geoff,
This may be totally unrelated, but I just had a similar problem with my car. It started with difficulty getting it into reverse and then the Shift Lever just completely disconnected, as in NO GEARS! I took the shift lever off (3 bolts, depending on how it’s cut away, should be accessible from the top) and when I felt aroung in the oil, I…[Read more] -

Hi Larry,
I have a Chevette based BCW 52 TD roadster. The windshield wiper assembly
looks like it is off a VW bug. -

Great idea…a can of Rustoleum will do about the same thing. The undercoating is messy and may be affected by the head generated by the light bulb…just a thought

Pink MG
Yeah, I appreciate Geoff’s response and the info provided, but I was already thinking of alternatives to avoid drilling holes. My headlight buckets are in very good condition, but I noticed some surface rust inside when I had to change a sealed beam recently. there is very little plating on the inside of the buckets. I was actually…[Read more] -

Rich,
DON’T DRILL HOLES IN YOUR HEADLIGHT BUCKETS…they’ll leak like crazy and rust through in a heartbeat. For the most part, these are not original MG headlight buckets, they are made in China aftermarket, universal for street rods and stuff like our cars. Not exactly the best quailty. Constant application of chrome polish is what saves…[Read more] -

Sure,
If you look at the pic you can see a knob sticking out of the side of the headlamp. there is one on each side. That is actually a screw(like the finger tight kind) that threads into the headlamp and through a bracket attatched to the baskets. I think if any mods were made it was just drilling a screw hole into the sides of the headlamps.…[Read more] -

Geoff,
Another question. I noticed that your MG has the Headlamp chrome Stone Guards. I have sets that came with mine for the Headlights and Fog Lamps as well, but I don’t have any hardware to attach. Can you describe how yours are attached? Might have to fabricate my own.
Thanks,

Rich,
I too had the clutch cable SNAP on me while driving it a few years ago, It definitly sucked to reinstall it!! Especially in a gas station parking lot!!! Glad to hear you are having so much fun with your new MG. Wanna trade your Cobra for my TD? -
Rich Bellefeuille replied to the topic Geoffs 53 Classic Carriages TD in the forum TD Replicas 16 years, 3 months ago
Geoff,
Probably the same Ford transmission as in my car. I have not had a chance to drive it any great distances, but so far Trans is smooth and quiet.
Clutch cable replacement was a major pain. Apparently the Clutch Lever on the tranny was too close to the fiberglass cowling and when somebody tried to disengage it tore a small hole in the cowling…[Read more] -

I know my father put a racing clutch in some years back, I tried looking through a pile of receipts to find out which kind with no success. The tranny is a 4sp manual(german ford) which is actually giving me problems with the reverse gear. He put in a crane cam, holly carb, Hooker? header, K&N filter, and some engine tweaks. I’m not sure what else…[Read more]
