Thanks for getting back to me. I will get a picture out to you and perhaps that will shed some light on some of my questions. I was told it was a 4cyl from a small chevy truck, but I did not purchase it from the builder.
There was no top or side curtains with the car. I do have the frame though and wonder if I have it all. It looks like som…[Read more] -

dbrock,
I just finished up replacing the front-end on my 51 MiGi (69 VW underneath). I replaced the steering box as well. If you have made sure that your steering linkage is OK, then you can try adjusting the steering box. Muir’s book has a procedure, and the VW factory manual will have a procedure as well. The adjustment is the scre…[Read more] -

Welcome to the forum George. I’m at the central NJ Shore.
As far as parts go, no MGTD Kit is currently in production. In fact, I only know of one company that produced a TD variant that is still in business, but they have been sold at least once and haven’t produced a TD replica for over 20 years. They have no parts left and I think their molds…[Read more] -

Larry – you did good! Yes you replied to the right place.Samyer…Larry’s approach is the one that Classic Roadsters included in their assembly manual. Classic Roadsters Duchess has a bench seat, so this was really the only approach they could take. It’s relatively easy and does get the handle up where you can more easily reach it.

Welcome aboard! Looking forward to seeing your car.Lots of good people and good info here.Tires…are you looking for VW stock sizes? There are relatively few choices out there for the stock VW tire.I just checked out http://www.tirerack.com. They have one in the stock 165/80-15 size from Kumho. But a good price, only $40 each! You can check the various…[Read more]

Hi every one, I had the ebrake problem but my car has a one piece seat bottom so I coud not move the ebrake handle behind the shifter.I cut a v shaped section out of the handle, then bent it up and welded it back together, also I bent and shortened the release rod to match .Now the is at a 30 degree angle to the tunnel when completely down. Not a…[Read more]

Hi,I have a set of five wire a wheel covers from my Duchess. Send me a private message with your email address, and I’ll send you photos. It’s likely the factory did not supply the exact same wire wheel covers through-out the production run. Plus, my set was on my car for many years, so they are not “new”.If you have Classic Roadsters serial…[Read more]

I noticed that in the EMPI catalogue there is a listing of both chassis and engine serial #’s that will identify them both. Hope this helps.

bout i/4 turn. Did find some of it in the steering coupler, but the steering box appears to be the main culprit. Thanks for the reply. I will probably need all the help I can get!

Wow Paul…you’re an old fart now! Have you been getting AARP stuff in the mail yet? Seriously, thanks for compliments.
Joe, most retired age people need more “clearance”, so join the club. My first TD was made to fit me and no one else could see over the dashboard. I’m not retired yet, but wish I was.

Hi Joe,Pink’s name is Mark. Good guy and very knowledgeable.Mark is in NJ. I am too. And it’s not just what retirement’s all about. I built my Classic Roadsters Duchess in 1982. I was 24! And it’s still running great, 26 years later.I second Mark’s comments re the column. Most of the TD replicas you see were “adjusted” to the original owner by how…[Read more]

Hey Joe,
As far as moving the seats back, you are probably already there. The seat back mounts almost flush with the cockpit rear bulkhead. If you move the seat bottoms rearward, then you gain nothing but less seat bottom. With a butt like mine, that’s a no-no.
Your room will probably come from moving the steering column toward the dash.
Sounds…[Read more] -

The VW steering design is not exactly geometrically correct, but if you have checked the linkages and they are tight, the box may be the culprit.
A new steering box is the best bet. Keep in mind these cars were built from donor cars…who knows in what condition or mileage.
I sold an NOS German made box I had a few years ago, but I think Brazilian…[Read more] -
