I’m sure your mechanic knows that these cars are as good as they are built, mechanically, electrically and body. After that, like any car, they are as good as they are maintained.
A lot of people buy these cars and expect to drive them like a decent used “factory” car (Honda, Chevy, Ford, etc.). Big mistake…they take a lot of TLC and tw…[Read more] -

Well, to tell you the truth, I’m still debating on whether or not I want to buy one. I like what I’ve seen of them, but a mechanic friend of mine told me not to buy one, because evidentally he’s had quite a few that were nothing but trouble for him.I’m probably wanting to go with definately a British Coach Works. I love the way BCM makes their…[Read more]

Hi Josh,
Are you looking for a ready to drive (turn key) car or a car that is not finished.
Also, there are at least 3 variants of these kits, Ford (Pinto/Mustang II/Bobcat), GM (Chevette/Pontiac T-1000), both of these are full frame, front engine, rear wheel drive. The third is the VW (Beetle) based kits which are rear engine, rear wheel…[Read more] -
Mark Hendrickson replied to the topic Differences between Ford/VW Bodies in the forum My Project 17 years, 1 month ago
Wille,
The VW body is made to bolt to a VW floor pan. It had no floor and the “rocker rails” are totally different than the Ford or Chevy bodies. the Ford and Chevy bodies have a molded fiberglass floor that the body gets bonded to. The rear TD “gas tank” piece is also different as are the splash plans. On the VW it’s a hinged engine cover. On…[Read more] -

Morning,
It would appear to me the wheel brake cylinders have probably rusted and hanging the pistons inside. At the very least I would replace the flexible brake lines that go to each wheel and wheel cylinders. There is a possibility you also have a brake master cylinder that is hanging and causing pressure to hold the brake shoes against the…[Read more] -

I have a V.W. rear bumper that I will be removing within the next few weeks from my Daytona Migi.
I have already made me a custom front bumper (the original one on my car when I purchased was a flat aluminum panel from a stadium seat) and I have the material to make a custom rear bumper.
You are welcomed to the V.W. rear bumper if you want it.…[Read more] -

OK Paul…I guess I was just a little harsh!
I need to get in touch with the kit car magazines. I am still getting calls about NJRC. Dave never contacted them to replace my name with his. Now the club is sadly gone.
I answer all the calls to keep whomever it is interested in the hobby and offer any little bit of help I can. I guess it all depends…[Read more] -

Hi Leo,
Values are toough to establish for these cars. But a watchful eye on ebay or craig’s list auctions is one way to estimate a selling price. I’ve seen some extremes, but a quick guess is around $5,000.
I suggest you contact the Arizona Kit Car Club for local help….

Now now Mark. There have been some sunny weekends over the years. But you’re right, more often than not it’s been rainy, cold or both. The hotel cost is pure supply and demand. But the Ramada Limited rate wasn’t that bad this year. The group rate with Speedsters-Online was $119. Paying about the same at HoJo’s for the Mopar show in July. Enjoy the…[Read more]

Glad you guys had a good time…even if it was enduring the Speedster snobs. Hey…those cars are VW’s…not Porsches!!!
Even real TD’s (and every other British sports car) leaked like sieves, so I guess our TD’s are special if they don’t leak.
I think the show was 17 or 18 years old the last time I attended and it had rained every year except…[Read more] -

I had a good time as well, but the weather was rough – only drive we had was on Thursday night to the Caddy Shack before Paul got there.
I was directed to the back of the bus so to speak as they did not want the TD in the Speedster pictures as we drove to dinner – I do have a drive video of that if I can figure how to edit and post.
It was fun…[Read more] -

Dale and I added a touch of British elegance to the Speedster gathering.
My Friday drive was rain for 175 miles and took almost an hour longer than my usual. But…my Classic Roadsters Duchess kept me warm and dry the entire trip. Even the trunk was dry. It’s just not as much fun driving around with the top up and curtains but being warm and…[Read more] -

Look like it’s “Carlisle as usual” again this year. I won’t say the “R” word, but the weather radar is dark green and the weekend forecast says it’ll stay that way.
When the NJRC used to make this a yearly club attended “event”, it was wet every year but 1 of the 8 years in a row that I attended. In fact, it had been wet every year but the first…[Read more] -

Dale & Paul…just wanted to wish you guys a good time in Carlisle this weekend. Hopefully the weather will hold out for you.
