The only one I can be sure about is the Fibrefab. If you open the hood and look at the firewall on the pass.side there will be the F/F logo.around it will be a serial #.You can stand by the car with a cordless phone and call MG Magic in Fla.and he will tell you what to look for.He also has the parts. His # is,954-680-2010.There is NO website.

Paul’
I choose to go the look of a hotrod w/ mine and used the 205/70R15 w/ 7 inch wide after market spin off wire wheels. They were Cornells from Pep Boys. I must say that the car runs great w/ this set up and no rubbing. They do go past the fenders some though ( I like the look ). I do have a four tire set up w/ the stock VW size if I ever sell…[Read more] -

Thanks Phil
If you find them let me know – otherwise I guess I will try to make my own patterns.
Anybody else done this yet? -

Kumho makes a 165x80R15 that would be the right tire for your VW based TD Replica. A larger/wider tire will not get as good traction (less lbs. per sq. in.) on the contact patch.
Tire Rack has these backordered, as previously mentioned, for $32 each.
I’m sure Coker Tire has some expensive tires you could use that are the same size (165x80R15). I…[Read more] -

You are probably best to make your own patterns out of cardboard. They are not that hard to make. I doubt that mine are still around. We have just moved and there is only a slight chance that they are tucked in a corner somewhere.

cucumber1949 replied to the topic London Roadster VIN in the forum General Discussion 17 years, 9 months ago
I own a London Roadster which was factory built. The VIN number plate is riveted to the driver’s side of the transmission tunnel, just in front of the driver’s seat, directly below the shifter mounting bracket. I had to remove / lift up the carpet at that location to see it. The VIN for factory built cars will start with “LCWL” and be 16…[Read more]

The plate at the base of the shifter could be out of adjustment. It only takes a tiny bit to be off. Post on the Samba website, there are a lot of very helpful guys there that know these cars inside and out.The old book by John Muir,How to repair your Volkswagen for the compleat idiot is pretty good. The Bently manuel though goes into real…[Read more]

I have located a glass grille shell for the car,so I may sell it without the original one.I really had no idea what to ask so I was trying to find out.I bought one of these cars running and driving for $2400.and another complete one that had sat out since 1983 for $700.I had to take both apart and reassemble a little better. The only real expense…[Read more]

I bought my kit off ebay for just over $1000. Assembly had been started but was then put in storage for 20 yrs. It came without the donor car.

You raise an excellent point Keith.
To the extent any kit includes reproduction parts (the grill in particular) the “original TD” market will often support a much higher price than the kit market. I was not sure if Fiberfab used an original style grill. Some kits have a shortened shell, done in fiberglass.
I agree a direct sale might go for a…[Read more] -

I probably would sell it for that without the grille shell.A local TD guy will give me $1000.for the new shell. He said while it may sound like a lot he has been looking for the right one for over two years. To correctly repair and replate his brass one he is looking at $1500.He would rather give me $1000.for my new-in-box brass one.He now has…[Read more]

Hi Keith,
Even tougher to guess at this than at the value for a built car.
I’ll float a number for others on the list to shoot at. But first, I recommend you watch auction sites like Ebay for a while. More frequently than you might guess, you’ll see unbuilt kits auctioned off. Those selling prices will tell you a lot about what the market will…[Read more] -

Tires are getting hard to find locally,so I found some at something like tiresonline,or maybe the tire rack.I got the same as on one of my other cars, they are Kumhos. They seem to be fine, and they are only $32.each.I used the Yahoo search and found the same tires at a dozen different places so it was just a matter of price and freight shopping.

Hey Paul M,
I just took a closer look at my tires and found them to be 195 R15 and they seem to be working with no rubbing… just FYI…so maybe I will stay with them since they are easier to find - Load More
