Greg Johannsen started the topic Duchess Horn in the forum VW Based Kits 8 years, 2 months ago
Wondering what type of horns other Duchesses have. The manual shows two air horns, a large one and a small one with a compressor. Mine has two equal size horns, one on each side with wires running to each. Neither works. I will try to find somewhere to jump it to see if it’s just the switch that is bad. Would appreciate any…[Read more]

A 357 Magnum will also leave a nice reinforced melted hole…But for this application I’d take the advice from the smarter members of our club…I’m just here for the comic relief! That’s what Village Idiots do best!
And I’m proud to be yours…

Hi all – I have been working on my Trike. as a result I have decided to run other wheels . I have 3 – 48 Spoke 15 inch wires for sale. The splines are in good shape. One of the wheels has a couple of bent spokes. They have inner tubes and good rubber. I also have two adapters that will fit 100 mm pcd and 108 mm pcd 4 lug both patterns (chevette…[Read more]

newkitman started the topic Interesting Stereo Installation in the forum MGTD Kit Cars 8 years, 2 months ago
While browsing the bay for MGTD replicas I found one that has an interesting way of installing the stereo in the dash. It uses two VW valve covers; one cut into the dash with the stereo installed into it and the other valve cover hinged to be the stereo cover. Nicely done. Oh. TDr is a Duchess and has 1 bid for 2500 with a reserve 0f 4500.

So I take a little time off and come back to find Bill is getting a bigger engine than I am. My V6 seems underpowered now.

Slight delay in progress due to a little bad weather here in Florida. Working on front suspension and decided on urethane bushings. Only kit available is for Fiero which is supposed to have Chevette front suspension. After getting everything installed on arms, realized that lower bushing are too wide and have to be modified. Lower arm shou…[Read more]

Clean out your tool boxes guys, here are the ONLY tools you will EVER need.
Duct Tape and WD-40
If it MOVES and it’s NOT supposed to, use Duct Tape.
If it DOESN’T move and it’s SUPPOSED to, use WD-40.
Simple as that….

As an alternative to using the rotary punch, as both tops and tonneau covers are now using a polyester type material I use a pencil style tip soldering iron to melt a hole in the material. By melting the hole I am able to minimize the potential of the material fraying and in fact have reinforced the hole with the melted material. As Paul points…[Read more]

Bob,
Snaps are an easy install.
You need one of these to punch the holes: https://www.amazon.com/Revolving-including-Screwdriver-Grinding-Saddle/dp/B06XRDBGY6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1506032075&sr=8-3&keywords=hole+punch+tool
There are others, the above is just an example.
And you need one of these to attach the female snaps: https://www.amazon.…[Read more]

Hate reading this thread. (Not really, but ya’ll know what I mean.)
Turns out both feet will be in protective boots for a few weeks after my surgery. So I won’t be able to drive, not even my normal daily drivers.
And the doc really wants me taking it easy for a few weeks post-op. Would one of ya’ll please tell Susanne she should be bringing my…[Read more]

Also hope you direct the Fiberfab owner our way!

Nice!
Really wish one of those would work on my Duchess. But because of the way the engine cover is hinged (at the bottom, on top of the rear valance) I’ve not been able to engineer a solution.
Occasionally I’ll grab an adult beverage and some Runyon rack pictures and sit there staring at it. So far, the result of those endeavors have been…[Read more]

You boys are singing my song.
When I put the Subie in Bridget I promised myself I’d go back through the wiring and neaten things up/correct some mistakes (mine and the PO’s). But so far I ain’t saw fit to do it. Signal lights stop when I hit the brakes. Brake lights with the headlights on don’t seem to get any brighter. All kinds of Lucas-like…[Read more]

When I did the restoration of Sabine last year I bench wired the new dash gauges and switches. When it came to wiring to the original wiring harness it was a challenge what with multiple loads connecting to one circuit. This is what my fuse block and relays looks like on the firewall on the passenger side The block on the left contains s…[Read more]
