Sounds like you did it right. A lot of kits require trimming of various parts t6o get the body together.

Nice job, Dave! Like I always say, “fabrication is FUN!” (Ok, I’ve never said this).

When I first bought my car, I had a problem with starting as well. My mechanic told me that with the battery up front, and the starter in the rear (a long way for the juice to travel), I needed a starter relay to give more power to turn things over. I had him install one close to the starter and never had a problem again…

That’s some fine work if I do say so! Mighty fine indeed!!! My wind wing hinges are also from Classic Roadsters Ltd. and I like yours better!!! The previous owner replaced nuts and bolts with whatever was around the garage and the plexiglass is amber…I’ll be replacing mine before long…

With the help of my fellow geezer here in town (Gregg), we got the engine cover on and closed properly. It turned out to be quite a combination of problems. 1st the hinge was correctly installed on the cover but the hinge was installed to low on the body tub. So we fixed that. 2nd was the spare tire cover rubbing on the mini air cleaner. Sanded…[Read more]

Ah! I bet Duchess thanks you. Plus…she’ll be a safer ride now. You going to Bug-A-Paluza on April 8th? I’ll be there around 11:00 am. Looking for a rim for the spare tire. Doesn’t have to be new, just in good condition.

Finally got the Duchess her new tires, all 5 of them. Turns out the front tires were 16 years old (205s) and the back tires were 20 years old (165s). Odd since the back tires were in much better shape. Went with 16580R15s all around. Here are a few pictures from the shoe store.

Greetings y all, I have been away from the site for a while due to some health reasons, but now I am back and I have been working on HERBIE again, my 1985 TDr Classic Roadster Duchess. I just re engineered the Wind Wing mounting brackets, as I could not find any. Classic Roadsters had a very unique one off way of mounting their Wind Wings. I will…[Read more]

Sounds great Sam! These older VW cars are fun and easy to work on, but they can be a challenge. I find that a lot of good common sense, patience and of course a cold beer, are very import when sorting out problems when thing do not work. Our web site I have learned has some very talented guys here, and someone has had the same problem or has an…[Read more]

I’ve been off the forum for some time, dealing with health issues that waited until I’d retired to crop up. On the mend now and passing time by getting reacquainted with some of my favorite TDrs — yours among them. Question: Are those just covers on your road wheels, or alloys of some kind? And what about the spare; if it’s a cover, it looks…[Read more]
The road wheels just have simple plastic covers. The spare is a wire wheel. The builder originally had a full set of wire wheels but he gave four of them to his brother his own TDr. Never got the whole story behind that. Glad your on the mend, definitely the right direction.
