I believe the top bolts that hold the spare tire support are hanging on the rear face of the fan shroud. I will take the spare tire support off tomorrow and see how that works. In the library tab, if you go to the VW/CMC manual, page 39 covers the spare tire mount installation. If it has 1981 and MiGi it sounds like you’re looking at the kit serial number. I think that’s irrelevant to your registration unless the car’s never been registered before by a state motor vehicle department.

If you are looking at the VIN on the ownership documents it may have been assigned by the DoT for the state/province where it was first registered. I think I’ll try David’s approach, it should solve my problem.

I have bought several items from Jbug and MG Magic already it seem neither had individual socket replacements.

What I did was buy some generic 1157 and 1156 sockets from Carquest/NAPA and some boots from MG Magic. Used the 1157 for brakes and driving lights and the 1156 for signal light circuit. Alternatively you could buy VW rear light fixtures but I could not find after market fixtures so would have been faced with searching wreckers yards or swap meets.…[Read more]
