Check out “Rob and Dave’s Air Cooled VW Pages at http://www.vw-resource.com
They cover just about all the usual VW problems you’re likely to encounter. And as Roy has said, use those copper crush washers. Also, as recommended by Rob and Dave, if you don’t have a drain plug in the sump plate replace it with one that does have the drain. It l…[Read more]

Stephen, there was a feature on the old site which I miss: there was a listing of the names of those who are currently logged in. A few minutes ago, I responded to a question from a member and I would normally stay logged in (if I knew he was still online) to see if he understood my answer.

John, you are correct that the oil filter only needs about 1/4-1/2 turn after oiling the rubber gasket. Any tighter than that is only necessary from an “idiot mechanic”.
WRT your problems with the oil drain plate: I do not use any gasket sealer at all and am bone dry underneath. Try threading the nuts onto the studs without the plate. If the…[Read more]

Adventures in Oil Changing …
I am totally inexperienced at this mechanic thing but my luck with “professionals” has been so bad that I feel like I have to do things myself. I ended up selecting 10W40 Mobil 1 and bought a bottle of Rislone oil additive with ZDDP.
The aftermarket oil filter was put on by the first idiot mechanic, so I should h…[Read more]

Sounds great. Another issue that I’m having with my tablet is it injecting DIV formatting tags in my post if I edit it before posting. I fat-finger things often…
Then if I edit after posting to remove the DIV tags, it shows up in the Activity stream twice.

Nice toy, though I think climbing in and out would be a challenge for me some days!
When do we get an update from Happy Jack and Roy, the bar<span style=”line-height: 1.5;”>n-storming duo? 😂</span>

I’m looking for your input on possibly splitting the ‘Site Input’ forum into two separate forums to help me manage the fixes that need to be done and to separate them from the site tutorial type threads.
Here’s the proposal:
- Site Input — a forum for site problem reports and to track upgrades, fixes, etc. One issue per thread and the thread…

I came across a few bits of information which may help members evaluate LED replacement lamps.
Since most LED replacement lamps are rated in lumens (a measure of light output) comparison to watts is best left to the engineers. A more useful comparison for us mortals is:
#194 bulb (common in marker lights and instrument panels) has an output of…[Read more]
