I may have the problem solved. The upholsterer who abandoned me and my car and took my money did start on a top before all that happened. So, I have a shell of a top that has the top and front seams in it, a window, and a basic shape. What it needs is to have someone seam the side edges and put some kind of canvas edging on the bottom that ca…[Read more]

I looked into MG magic for a new top e mailed back and forth decided it would be a pain in the ass . Do you have any boat canvas people or amish canvas shops they could do it right and probably cheaper. I had a boot made by local amish for 40 bucks . NICE

Hey Crash55 I wonder if they would take a mail order? 🙂 I could send them my top. It has shrunk a little but at that price it might be worth the gamble.

This place seems to have a classic air to it. I’ve frequented many forums of various topics and from what I’ve combed through, I’m glad to be here. Besides, I find this to be quite a niche group of enthusiasts.

Good thinking.I’ve found that a good way to test any knowledge base or search engine is to ask a question to which you already know the correct answer. 😀

I run 10-30. If my oil press drops, I know it is time to clean the engine or change to 20-50 or both.

Tires under is always a good practice. I do that too (or did) unless they’d be in the way of what I was working on.

10w-40 if you can. 20-50 if it’s really tired, or really hot out.

I knew it had to be oil when looking at the picture before reading about it, just thought they always said “oil pressure” so that’s a first for me.Mine tends to stay around 25 PSI, using 20W-50 Mobil 1 oil. I keep wanting to try 10W-30 instead and risk the thinner oil so it isn’t having to push a thicker oil. Never gave the original (mystery) oil… -

Just my two cents. I usually put the tires under the brakes just in case things shift and the car comes down, I’ve seen others put cinder blocks just to be extra safe. Maybe this sounds like paranoia but I also keep my cell phone within reach just in case I become trapped under Eliza Jane. And a full flask will also make the wait for the…[Read more]

That is fairly normal oil pressure for an air-cooled VW, once it has warmed up. They run lower pressures than some other cars. The oil pressure relief valves are set to bypass the oil cooler at somewhere between 42-45 psi, dumping oil back into the crankcase. This is done to prevent blowing oil seals or rupturing the cooler with cold, thick oil…[Read more]

My grandpa on my dads side has a shop with 2 lifts and a tire changer/balancer that I’m very familiar with. I spent all my summers when I was young in that shop with him.I also noticed that none of the fuel lines had hose clamps on them. As anxious as I’ll be to get this going and driving again, I’ll be going through ev… -

10 lbs per 1000 rpm is the going standard. But don’t assume what you see on the gauge is accurate.
