Hi guys
I went to the Monroe shock site to look up the specs for vw shocks. There is a nice chart giving us lot’s of options for longer and shorter and softer, etc. shocks. They specify a “bumper stop unit p124 p1137” to be used with the 32126 front shocks. they also state that the compressed lenght of this shock is dimension at the bumper contact. In their definition they state that this bumper slows down the compressionbefore the shock totally bangs the bottom to prevent jolting us and our cars. I’ve seen rubber convoluted stops on off road vehicles and as standard equipment on late model corvair front shocks. (the replacement auto supply shocks didn’t have them).
These blocks provide a way of stiffening the spring rate as the limit of travel is approached. IMHO a good idea.
Take a look at how they responded to my request for more info!

Your chart calls for a bumper stop unit p124 p1137 . What does this unit
look like? Due to body modifications I need to limit the compressed length
of the shock to prevent tire/fender interference.
This car has no bottoming blocks so the shock has got to limit the travel.
Is that what the bumper stop unit does? and is this a soft stop, like with
a rubber block? Can I add these to my existing shock even if I must remove
the dust shield?I did get a respose to my question Which was top view of a car frame with shock nos at the 4 corners! Not what I was looking for!
I replied!!!
Dear sirs,This was the most useless reply to a question I’ve ever heard. It’s like asking a doctor what an ingrown toenail is and having him send you a picture of a man.I want to “see what this stop unit looks like” do you know? are you trying to keep it a secret???If it’s ok with you I’d like to post my question and your response on a few forums, OK?ThanksChuck Schmit
