I bought my MiGi from a Rev. in Florida. I first saw it on E-bay but lost the bid. I blew the VW engine in FL…. I towed it back to NJ 2 weeks later. And it took 1 year to have the engine rebuilt in NJ. I am tapped out on my repair funds but the transaxle is leaking, it needs to be re wired, the floor boards are rotting BAD. it has No housing for the air filter, it was running fine since the engine was rebuilt a year ago but it has been stalling out a lot now I need HELP restoring her or finding a place to do it.. I am NOT that mechanical with cars. IT needs a paint job and Side curtains too. She has a tarp on her and has been sitting in my driveway for 2 months. HELP HELP HELP ANYONE !!
October 3, 2010 at 11:44 pm #242451Hi Mike
I killed the other thread you started. All it contained was a broken link.
This forum already contains some solid threads on some of the topics you are asking about
For example, search floor plans and you will find a lot of threads talking about repairing and replacing floor pans.
Beyond that…start asking questions. I only suggest that you start a new thread for each new topic.

October 4, 2010 at 7:45 am #242452Your in the right place, we’re here to help. I once had an old friend tell me that you will never restore a car if you look at the whole car. Look at each individual project as themselves. Celebrate completions. Breath. You should prioritize. and start thru your list.None of us believe we are mechanics we’re hobbists and we all make mistakes and blunders don’t get discouraged. I’ll help you where I can I need you to give me an engine number. It you know where that is your ahead of me when I started. Its on the top of your Alternater stand which is the round thing to the right of your carbutator. I would start looking for an air filter right off, you can find them at Mid America. I would like to know what kind of carburation you have. theres a number on the side of the barrel. I would suggest you purchase the book how to keep your vw running by John Muir. when i know year and engine type I can send you a shop manuel, so we’re on the same page. I can guide you thru the mechanics, someone else will have to help with body work. Don’t get discouraged this is fun.
October 4, 2010 at 9:13 am #242453Mike, I saw the picture of your car in the photo gallery. You already have more accomplished than many guys regardless of how much you have left to do. I say ”AMEN” to what Paul and Richard said in their posts. Help is available here. The restoration can not be done in a day ,but the time and effort you put in to this little car will bring you satisfaction for years to come.
Paul asked that you start a new thread for each topic. This will make it possible for others with the same question to find the info they may need in the future without having to look at the entire forum and perhaps overlooking the solution that has been posted previously.I try to read every post by checking the forum daily [my wife would say hourly] but I have more time than many members .

That’s funny Larry.
I really shouldn’t, but I stop by here often durign the work day just to see if there is anything new.
And if the site were blackberry friendly, I’d be here even more often! (you can get here via a pda web browser, but it’s hard to read)
