All,
I just finished making a pair of replacement Wind Wings for my FiberFab TD. The originals were badly weathered and “crazed”. Actually it was pretty easy to do. I used .220 Lexan (would have preferred .250 but couldn’t find any). Cut it with a very fine jigsaw blade. Smoothed the edges using an electric “Mouse” sander and progressively fine sandpaper down to 1500grit. I have enough Lexan to make another set, and I think I’m going for the larger size this time. Cost was $18 for Lexan, and $3.69 for jigsaw blades.
Hard to photograph, but I think they look very good.

the look great how do they attach to the car? I have a CMC and was thinking about buying a pair from Moss.
January 31, 2009 at 3:40 pm #238183Hi,
I’m just re-using the hardware that came with the FiberFab kit. The 90degree flanges with the two holes each slide into the slot on the Windshield frame and attach with screws and nuts.

February 2, 2009 at 6:14 pm #238187Thanks guys. Just didn’t know if anyone else had tried this. Big improvement, short money and easy to do. There were a lot of good tips on methods by just googling CUTTING LEXAN. Band saw would probably be the perfect tool, but I don’t own one.

July 11, 2009 at 11:47 pm #238188Ok, the next question, does it help with the wind?

I actually responded directly to you on 7/8 under the topic Wind Wings.

Yes you did. I made some myself, and made them quite a bit larger. There was not much different than the nornmal size ones. I used windwing hinges left over from my MGTC which worked quite well. They can be bought from Moss. Trying some other ideas all which has to come to a good end sometime.
August 10, 2009 at 8:58 pm #238191Rich ,the wings look good but i have a question is that your seat? i like the idea of cloth seats ! I never liked leather or vinyl I have not seen a TD with any outher I have had convertables with leather and vinyl the last 6 have been cloth and I like cloth better. Dan R40035.8765972222

March 7, 2010 at 11:31 pm #238193Having made a number of wind wings to find the most effective for me, I think I am close. I bought hinges for a MGTC which uses such for both sun visors and windwings. ‘
Anyone who would like a patern of what I have wound up with, I would be glad to send along. Also, because I have a good bit of plexiglas left over, I can cut out some if that would help for postage to send.
The cheapest hinges were $8.?? from LB car co.

March 8, 2010 at 12:49 pm #238194I just took wind wings to a glass company. they are duplicating with tempered glass. cost $70.00 each! bob
March 23, 2010 at 2:26 pm #238195Where did you get the hardware to mount the wings to the windshield?
March 23, 2010 at 6:15 pm #238196I had a new set made for mine last July, after trying several different sizes and shapes. I ended up with the design in this picture attached
Also shown is the orginal shape that was on the car.
Cost at a local plexiglass shop was only about $25.00, edges polished and ready to mount. All I had to do was drill the holes for the screws.
I’m going to expermint with a rear/removable wind screen this summer. I’ve seen several for MGB’s and Triumph’s.
March 24, 2010 at 9:13 am #238197For hardware this is what I’ll be using. It’s the same hardware I used on my cobra so I know it works. Not cheap however. I’ll be making my own wind wings out of lexan. Lexan is great material for wind wings not cheap either but it holds up well.

May 2, 2010 at 9:18 pm #238198I had a broken windwing on my Daytona Migi. I did not have the tools let alone the ability to do the work, so I took the good one to a sign shop and they made me 2 sets out of scrap material that they had. The look great and fit perfectly.
