    @kall

    I have had a struggle with the gas tank filler. The builder opted for an adhesive or putty which failed mechanically. Not being a welder, I tried several adhesives which also could not stand up to the force needed by the all-metal cap.
    Finally, I got an all metal filer neck with an attached flat flange at the junkyard, flattened the area around the tank hole, and soldered it on.
    Tank must be removed, flushed and dried.
    Area to be soldered must be clean bare metal.
    Use lots of paste flux as you go.
    Use a 200-300 watt iron. (The stained glass type is good)
    I used the “spot & puddle” technique, laying down a series of overlapping spots. The “blast it with a torch” technique used for plumbing probably will not work, as the solder will flow off the seam and the temperature is hard to control.
    Lay down as many layers as necessary, rasping down any high spots.
    Use a light touch to avoid remelting previously applied spots.
    Thanks to an old Italian craftsman neighbor many years ago who taught me this technique.

    I’ll try posting some photos when I can get on the desktop computer.
