Learning to let go is also a crucial skill I’m trying to develop.

I do plan to drive it a few hundred miles at least to sort it and make it right. I think that’ll be enough.

Then it’s probably going on Bring a Trailer with a lower reserve than I will be comfortable with.

Bridget is my forever plastic clown car.

Update on the Spyder build, for any interested.

    The engine is in.

I made a front sway bar.

The hood closes, the battery is in, and the fuel tank (which is very special) is coming in for a landing.

I continue to make slow progress on most days. Thank you for your support in this difficult time.

Got the wiring tucked up under the dash. Putting the car back together now.

    Updates:

Of course after I got the car perfectly aligned I discovered that I’d assembled the clutch without a crucial part.

So it goes. Cory Drake (he with the Swiss Army Speedster) came up to help pull the engine and transaxle out, and I ordered the $22 clutch collar I actually had one of back when I put the Suby in Bridget (that time, I tried to install the clutch with this part, which on that application was wrong, necessitating a re-do.)

Damed if I do, damned if I don’t!

Here’s the dang thing that I was missing. Of course I couldn’t find it in the shop, even though I know darned well I never throw anything away.

Here’s Cory joyfully celebrating the removal of my drivetrain last Saturday:

So the new part came and I put the engine back together, along with some upholstery work. Which was also a PIA.

You can read all about that here.

And thank you once again for your support.

Engine is back in and the interior work is all but done.

    It won’t be long now.

Still hacking away at the Spyder. We’re down to fettling now.

I continue to be very stoked at how very close to the real deal this car is coming to appear.

Here’s a blog post about the latest tom-foolery.

I’m still making progress on the build, fewer than 75 individual tasks* are left on the punch list.

    *subject to change without notice.

Now just need the MVA to open so I can title and tag it, and begin sea trials.

    Hey, friends, a favor?

If you feel like it, check out the Pelican Parts Virtual Car show and then vote for my entry (i.e. the pile-o-junque depicted above) as Best DIY Project.

You know I’d do the same for y’all.

PS: final touches are almost done. Still awaiting state authorities reopening for title/tag/taxes and destination charges to be applied.

    Spyder reassembly progress.

    The floorpan is back in.

Glass windshield is on*; wipers wipe.

54 items remain on the punch list. Some of those are such chores as “<b>VISIT MSP WITH DOCS FOR SIGN-OFF”</b>

    and<b> “Get VIN/Title</b>”

There are just two dozen discrete tasks ahead of those steps. I plan to knock about a half dozen off the list today.

    ==

*The wipers will be necessary to pass state inspection, I’m told, and they’d scratch the plexi windscreen, so I have put the DOT Speedster windscreen on the car temporarily. I always planned to sell it with the car as a convertible item, with the wipers, wiper motor, etc. in a box, in case the next owner wants to go that route.

Looking forward to sitting in the driver’s seat  —  just to see what a Mega DIY project feels like from the seat of the pants.
