Bert Levy is my neighbor. When I was in Indian Guides many years ago he was a member of our tribe. We made an outing where we met him at Road America and he took each of the little Indians out for several laps in the Ferrari he was driving. He has a website: http://www.lastopenroad.com

The “Centerfold” photo of August Kit car Builder was titled “The Wonderful World of Porsche Replicas”. It was taken at Carlisle this year. Flanking the Porches on left and right are the MG Replicars. I couldn’t get it below 1.2M. Below is link to photo, you probably have to cut and paste, get message Flickr doesn’t allow embedding within fra…[Read more]

My is titled as a “1974 VW” but the VIN is “SOSXXXXXXX” where SOS is the Illinois Secretary of State and the XXXXXXX is a number the SOS assigned to vehicle when they inspected it after assembly. As such it would be eligible for historic license plates since it is over 25 years old.

Al Greig replied to the topic Convertible top front mounting battens? in the forum General Discussion 12 years ago
I have a piece of about 1/16″ x 3/8″ nylon plastic stock inside the leading edge that runs the length of the windshield. Works good and is flexible enought to fit into boot OK.

Trips to NJ were over 20 years ago. There was less force being applied to the butt due to the smaller mass above it than today. Don’t remembering TBS, but I am sure I would experance it today.

This is how I ran my vent line. It is attached to high point of firewall so any liguid will drain back into tank.

Al Greig replied to the topic update to front disk brakes? in the forum VW Based Kits 12 years, 1 month ago
I installed front disk breaks about 20 years ago and have no complaints. Best advantage is not having to adjust. At the time, I needed new shoes and drums so and the cost of the kit was not much more than the cost of the required parts. I believe the rotors are from a type 3. Thinking about installing rear disks this winter.

I went with the Hot Rod series, chrome bezel, black face & white letters/pointers. Cost for 5 guages (tach, speedo, oil temp, gas & amps) with new senders was $425 about 10 years ago. Didn’t do any cost comparison.Al -

Your tank is different than mine, if I pull line from bottom of tank it drains.Al -
Al Greig replied to the topic Duchess Kit Car Won't Start in the forum VW Based Kits 12 years, 1 month ago
Not sure what kind fo tank Duchess has, but my Fiberfab MiGi uses the standard VW tank. If the line is pulled from tank, gas will drain out of tank by gravity. If no gas is leaving tank, it can’t get to fuel pump.
