I need something to minimize lateral sliding during the hillclimbs. I can see more fiberglass work and some welding in my future..

I would first loosen the body side hinge mounting bolts and see if you can maneuver the door in the direction you want. Over the years I’ve elongated or slotted almost every mounting point on my car for wiggle room.

I’m with Roy. A 10′ run of cable require something large.

You should be able to go both ways. The top should fold down and then be covered by the tonneau. If the top is removed you obviously would have more room.
