									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I had muffler heat problems melting the fiberglass panel that sits right above it so I lined that panel with an aluminum sheet and ran the sheet all the way up to the V/W sheet metal. I agree with the idea that the fan should not be sucking in all that hot air.<br />
My al sheet solved the melting problem, anyway!</p>

									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I just flipped my tie rods over to be below the arms. Cip1 has the little sleave you need. This corrects the geometry and keeps the tie rods from hitting the body. Also prevents &#8220;bump steer&#8221; on lowered cars.</p>

I could see a spot right behind me but nothing to either side so I put a TD style mirror on the dash and that works great. He even offered to paint it for me if I did the prep work. I would probably not paint a fiberglass car black because it shows all the little imperfections that are inherant to fiberglass. My carwas just a little too low for me so I put on gas charged Monroes and it raised my rear a little over an inch.<br />
The notion that yoiu can&#8217;t use gas charged shocks on a VW is not so in my humble opinion. These shocks are also full of oil.<br />

air cooled engines are the most fun cuz you can sit in a wagon and hook up a battery and a gas line and fire-away!<br />
They sound really powerful  with no exhaust system and the torque nearly tips them over when you rev it up.<br />

Even the snaps for the tonneau were plated ferrous material. I&#8217;ve been replace-ing everything that shows with stainless. I bled it really good on the bench then plugged all the holes and just pulled one plug  at a time and put in each line one at a time. I installed the 3417 with 1 outlet pipe (a very long pipe!) Might need a red flag on that tailpipe it&#8217;s sooo long&#8230;<br />
The sound is great, nice and quiet until you punch it then it has a nice throaty sound.<br />
I did have clearance problems so I moved the fiberglass cover back about 5/8 inch and it just clears now. It will run smoothly for a few seconds then get rough again. I have dual carbs so as long as one is working you can play with the other one. The speedo was locked up which will twist off the cable. You can buy the cable inner part at most auto supply stores and cut to your required length. It comes with a little tool to crimp the end on and works great and saves you the work and expense of changing the whole thing (assuming that it&#8217;s still in good shape).<br />

Also, the empi mufflers (avail from partsdoghouse and Cip1) give you more room under the cover. Read the muffler thread.<br />

Inside, you had the same problem as I did with mine. The little drive gear gets stuck due to lack of lubrication. I now have about 3 inches of travel which seems adequate for most roads I drive on.<br />
BTW  Is the radiator shell just supposed to sit on top of the front axel? seems like a good place for a rubber pad.</p>

One other thing, the clearance between body and the tie rods is very close. Make sure you cut away any excess fiberglass above the tie rods, Run the wheels ful left to full right and note close clearance areas.<br />

Its 10 inches compressed which should stop you from scraping the fender and give you more travel and better ride. You can add rubber bottoming blocks on the shock if your fenders scrape on big bumps.
