My Dutchess was closed up tight but I was able to rig the false gas tank to swing open like it was a rear-engine set up and built an aluminum “trunk” to stow stuff. I added an electric trunk latch operated by a push button that will only work if the ignition is on. So without a key you cannot open it.

On my Dutchess I swapped the engine to a Chevy 2.2L which has a hydro clutch. The Chevy master cylinder installed in a keyed hole I created just below the socket that the Chevette cable used. It was a fairly straight forward install.

could we get it (The Chevette Dutchess manual) scanned in and added to the “manuals” page?

I ended up not only bending the brake ped but I put the throttle a little in front so when I hit the brakes with my big feet I don’t hit the gas. When I’m driving my right foot is just under the edge of the brake.I don’t let anyone else drive her.

Thank you for your support. And yes I’ve had others mention the numbers and I think you’re right. unfortunately the video is already on line and would be difficult to change now. A friend of mine (a sales type) wrote the script for the video and I didn’t think to check the numbers. And Roy…I do have a A-bomb FX But I haven’t come up with a way to…[Read more]

I’ve been futzing with the computer on the Dutchess and had called Mykk over to check the tune and after a little more checking we discovered two things; one, I had a vacuum leak somewhere and, two, the air entering the engine was at 120 deg. F above ambient.
The first was solved by figuring out that the 2.2 L Chevy does not have positive crankcase…[Read more]

the door latch arrived from MG Magic and I installed it and shimmed up to latch completely. I’m much happier knowing my passenger won’t be falling out.
AND my rear-end support bushing arrived from Rick Drake (he’s got only one more. Chevette guys?) in Washington state. (425-742-4122)So up on jacks and pull that pesky rear-end…
Yep that rubber…[Read more]

it looks like the head if the martian attack wings from “War of the Worlds” 1953. Or maybe the alien space ships from “Robinson Crusoe on Mars” 1964? Am I dating myself?

Once again the forum saves the day!!!
I’ve been having a recurring problem with the passenger side door latch. The pot-metal cam inside keeps popping off the steel lever arm. when that happens you cannot open the door from the outside and it’s difficult to open from the inside as well.
So I pulled it out and set to fixing worn pot-metal to steel.…[Read more]

I had one of the chevette powered Dutchess’s. Getting parts for the engine was difficult. After much bother I went with the S-10 2.2L engine and 5 speed overdrive tranny. Once I dealt with the computer issues I’ve not been disappointed. The 120 HP engine develops more torque than any sane person needs. Points I liked; the 4 cylinder fits really…[Read more]
