I’ve seen the lovers painted or with pin striping applied in an attempt to make them look opened. Never cared for the end result. To cut them open I feel would end up with the same result. It just wouldn’t “look” right. With the underhood temperature, as long as the engine itself is running ok, the only problem would be to your paint. You can glue…[Read more]

Paul & Bill: I might open mine when I put a radiator up front for the Soob. Think I could box them on the inside and duct radiator through them, leaving a space inside that would remain out of the weather. Also thinking to replace the fuel tank with one like Paul’s–down low to the passenger side–which would open up a bit more luggage…[Read more]

I actually am considering it, Roy, based on your posts about the pump change.

Ah, you beat me to it. I saw in there a red TD with the wipers mounted up top and the legit TD top frame. I know that guy was posting here just before I joined the group. Guess he sold it; wonder who got it & where they are.

Ed, won’t that open your trunk space to the weather? It wouldn’t present a problem for those of us with front engines but I think it would ruin the best thing about the VW’s….space.

I intend to open louvers as needed in Bridget and duct air through them. Looks like a simple matter of cutting straight in the grooves, followed by a little sanding and sealing on the cut edges. My idea is to make a steel guide or jig for the roto-zip. I’m thinking a small bolt at the bottom to be fastened through the groove itself, and a…[Read more]

OK, folks: here is a very long blog post giving the blow-by-blow of Ed & Karen’s Great Three Day Pittsburgh Adventure. I suggest we all meet up there next year and bring our cars to the golf course as a group. We’ll slot in between the MGs and the VWs. Or maybe the VWs and the Fords. We should make a long weekend of it and descend on Dan and Bill…[Read more]

OK, so twice the other day I tried to post from my phone, and twice it shut me down–hence the two-word update.
Had a great time Wednesday night with Bill Hass and his wife Audrey (Crash55) and Dan Grant and his wife, Gana (whose name I may not be spelling well at all). Dan’s car looks good, with the exception of the cracked windshield. Great… -

Looks like a clean job. I’m curious about the radiator–does it run hot? and the brakes.

Annealing is the key. Don’t just clamp it in a vice and hammer it. Use heat.
There are also these handy dandy alumiweld rods for brazing parts together at low temperature. I’ve not tried them yet but plan to. Or maybe these Alumibond 3000s as demonstrated by Speedster Guy David Stroud. They may or may not be the same basic… -

Hope to see you before then, Bill. Dan just talked to me about maybe tomorrow night. Looks like our Thursday afternoon/evening is freed up too.

Ah! Just got word on the cruise. Looks like we’re in the 7th of 9 flights, led by an MGB and traveling with a TF.
Countryside Tour Notes: We will be travelling in groups of three or four cars, with each group led by a Greater Pittsburgh MG Club member (or Western PA Triumph Club member) who is familiar with the Tour route. You will find that th… -

So not much on this thread for the past few months. As of now, K and I are planning on heading to Pittsburgh on Wednesday afternoon, arriving in time for dinner. Next a.m. is the “Countryside Tour leaving at 9 a.m. from the Century Inn on Route 40 in Scenery Hill, PA.
That will take us to about 2 pm on Thursday. Karen has relatives there we’re go… -

Karen is an extremely good sport but I didn’t say she’d do it again. She does Carlisle and the Pumpkin Run. She does short fruit-picking trips and would consider another cruise. She is going with me on Wednesday to Pittsburgh to drive a no-time rally the next day. Here to Pittsburgh is 5 hours, give or take. (see other thread for details).
Karen… -

Here’s my blog on the Dust-Off ralleye. I’d like to do it again but, really, navigating is the hard job and it was a bit unfair to demand Karen do it without any equipment.
That said, an ALL- couple all-TDr ralleye would be hilarious. If only we had someone to map it out and manage it for us.That said, if anyone wants to visit MD for next year’s… -

Patti and I did a TSD Rally back in the ’80’s. We were lucky we didn’t kill each other.
