Glad you brought it up, Greg. The originals had this piece, and it was covered with rexine (aka vinyl). I been thinking of making one for Bridget but have not got to it yet.The material I would use is that hardboard stuff they make pegboards out of. Solid, 1/8 think, pretty light, hard, takes staples. Dittos to Larry: The BCW’s are inside. On Original TDs, the seat backs are relieved to clear the more elaborate original style top bows, which pivot forward so the canvas and bows can all clear the edge of the tub.

Check out those new oscillating tools with a cutting blade. I started using that on my last tear down/rebuild. Cuts nice and can get into tight places.

Looks like good advice but be careful with urethane steering couplers. The common “red” ones sold by VW outfitters tend to disintegrate, I am told. On front camber, I’ve been a half degree negative since installing the adjustable beam two years ago.
