I had always thought the Lafer, being a Mfg’d car imported to the USA, had to pass US safety standards in place at the time (1973?) including NTSB Rule 206 (door latches, etc) and the side impact regs (216?). I figured that was the cause of the ginormous tail lights as well. But I was just assuming, and we all know what I am already anyway.Turns…[Read more]

Interesting. So you are going to build a cage outside the tub? And make it a snap-on, snap-off deal with the mounts hidden under the running board?Cuz that sounds like a neat idea–if that’s the idea.

Yeah, I think the feds forced that on them.

Fender and running board successfully modified. The center section containing the runnung board will be removable. This will allow for the construction of a cage.

Rather bizarre with front hinged doors.

The Lafer looks like it sat out for quite a while. The dash and blacked-out chrome are signs of that. Strange that it doesn’t have the TM Lafter tail lights either–though those are not to everyone’s taste.Agree it could be a decent buy for someone who wants to play at putting it back together. Front bumper would be easy to replace but the grill…[Read more]

AAAHH!That’s the same gas cap that started my tear down. It’s a nice addition. You might consider a section of fuel fill hose that is not wire reinforced. It’d be easier to seal.

Yeah. I’m thinking the same. I’ll probably roll her out into sunlight next weekend just to be sure, but my feeling is that this is going to work.

Gabor demonstrates the use of logic in wiring! Very nice.I love that Scorcho truck. That’s not the one with a Jag front clip is it?

My car was green when BCW gelcoated it circa 1980. It was resprayed in the late 90s or early 2000s by the P.O. The color is Ford Toreador Red, which they shot trucks, LTDs and Tauruses with from the mid ’90s through about 2000.A metallic pearl formulation of some sort, Toreador Red is nothing like any paint Abingdon would have used on an…[Read more]

Go, Mark, go! The wiring will yield up its secrets as you go. Be patient and illogical, and after a while it will start to make sense & get easier. If you’re rewiring from scratch it’s OK to use logic.

Cowl respray. 45 degrees in the garage today but I lit a fire and got it
into the mid 50s, which is OK for the primer but a bit chill for the
Duplicolor. We’ll see what it looks like in the a.m. - Load More
