When the Fiberfab supplied tail lamp lenses faded to pink, I went to Carlisle looking for replacements. I hit every vendor there and only found one pair. The seller said they were from a Spitfire. This is mine…
I found this…http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lucas-L672-Rear-Lamp-Gasket-Triumph-Spitfire-Triumph-GT6-217025-/221158730033Hope this helps.

Ed, yes, that is a Berber carpet under the car, and yes, it’s FROM my living room. What better use for the old carpet than to cover that cold garage floor this winter?Roy, your best shot is if I don’t get this finished.

Alan Merklin on the Speedster site used them in at least one build. Gave then thumbs up. He’s built/rebuilt 30+ Speedsters so he knows a lot of stuff we’d probably have to ask questions about. He’s a super cool guy and would probably respond to your questions if you contacted him though the site.

Well, just a thought. The Dolphin gauges are sweet also, IMHO. Plus they’ll all match and drop right into the holes. Easy peasy! And at least as cheap as my way.

That’s a beauty of a dash, man. But you would not have to replace it. Originally I just made my speedo and tach holes bigger. Got the stock ’72 bug speedo on the fleabay for $40. The Tach was like $135 delivered, new. I also bought a new chrome trim ring for the speedo for like $15. And the whiteface gauge kit–which is not needed if you want to…[Read more]

The part you want looks like the stock piece from a mid 1970s VW van–but I don’t think the inlet diameter on that is big enough.Mine’s just a flex pipe, Roy. Works pretty good & is cheap. Not pretty though.

Did someone say gauges? My idea is obviously not for everyone, but I have found that an original VW Bug speedo solves a number of potential issues in the VW-based kits:1. It works with the cable feed from the front wheel, without any adapter gears. (Mine is dead-on accurate at 60 mph)2. (If it’s a ’72 and up) It reads to the TD-correct 100 mph.3.…[Read more]

Thanks, guys. Allen, I’d be glad to do it if you can find another fabricator to take my place at work. ;)Roy: no doubt you’ll find a more elegant way than I did.

Put her in the air and took her apart a little further.
Found what those fenders used to look like. Kinda looking forward to getting this done.

Welcome to you, Jack. Hope to see you in a TD replica soon. They are quite a lot of fun, and much more practical than the originals. Please let me know how it goes re the consulting “in the area of whole-brain thinking.” Having met met several consultants in my career as a journalist, I’ve never seen the market for that.

Happy to report that the glovebox is made and in. I decided to use a plank of maple I bought a year or two ago just because it looked too good to be sitting on the Home Depot rack. The floor and back of my box are maple. I did this to preserve some of the stiffness and strength of the original design, which features a 3/4-inch metal pipe that…[Read more]
