Hopefully the last disassembly. Body panels and engine removed.

Flywheel and clutch installed. Clutch slave cylinder mount fabricated and installed.

Original battery box removed to provide room for the Accusump.

A little fiberglass work, some minor welding and some paint and we can start on the final install.

Wow, that’s an impressive manual from the heritage center. It does verify my recollection that aside from the diesel versions all Chevettes ran the 1.6.

I went with this little cube one which is designed after the Arnolt heaters retro-fitted to many MG TDs in the day. Not as strong as Bill’s but I’m willing to give up a lot to look “period-correct,” and dudes definitely froze their asses in-period.

Should work. I’d dry-fit as much as I could before doing anything rash.
When I put the Soob in Bridget, the muffler tucked up under that splash pan a bit tighter than the previous exhaust. I lined the underside with reflective insulation made just for that purpose, and it worked beautifully. Key was prepping the unfinished glass underneath and…[Read more]

Dont have a picture, but you can pull it up. NAPA part #745-1048 is the style of unit that was posted in the Fiberfab instruction manual. I have only had to replace mine once since the initial build. It lasted over 15 years. It was a daily driver for quite a while. On High with the drafty top up, it will cook you. It bolts to the firewall dead…[Read more]

Jack, this would be the ideal time to invest in a seat warmer kit.

That engine looks really good. And I know you ol’ boys will make everything fit.
I have only one quibble: absolutely do turn the phone “sideways” when shooting video. Do it before you hit the shutter. Your viewers will thank you.

Well, stuff in the frunk will be visible whenever the front lid is lifted. (Wait till you see what I do with the gas tank!) Stuff under the clam will be very much on display whenever the back deck’s propped-up, which will be most of the time the car is parked in public.
I am hoping that my attention to detail will be rewarded by the car’s…[Read more]

Looking good, Ed.
So much time involved in all that stuff that won’t really be seen. The finished collective should be nice. 👍

Jack points welded, horn pockets installed, grill connected, air boxes made, etc.
Wish me luck on the steering column (up soon!), since that seems to be something of an Achilles Heel for members of this group.

Ok. Time for an update.
I rethought the steering column. Running it above the headers, then down at the front of the engine sounded cool, but was unnecessarily complicated. It now runs similar to the original but makes a couple kinks to clear the headers.

I cut the large flanges off the radiator and mounted the radiator a half inch farther…[Read more]
