Kent is spot on: the kit manufacturer was Daytona and they intended for it to be a TD replica. However, IMO, far too many builder “oddities” for my taste. Those giant black hinges gotta go. Sorry, but I am left with the impression that the person who assembled it had no idea of what a MGTD looked like.

The quickest and easiest is to hook up a temporary jumper from the + terminal of the battery and connect the other end of the jumper to the hot lead at or near the lights. If they light, it is a hot wire problem, possibly the switch. If no light with the jumper, then the problem is a bad ground.

My guess: bad (intermittent) ground.

Isn’t the rear track in a T-III a few inches wider than a T-I beetle?  And also the flattened fan of the longer (?) T-III suitcase design engine may cause some other fitment problems.  This one would require considerable head scratchin’ before I attempted it….beyond my range of expertise!
