  • Did it over the weekend. I’ve got this routine. First I add a can of CD2 and go
for a drive. Then, while the oil is still warm, drain it out. I replace the oil
filter and refill with Castrol 10-40. Then I add Z-Max and go for a drive, per
    the instructions.

  • ALL FIXED!
The nylon clip arrived from Rick Drake and took less than ten minutes to
install. Test drive successful. Shifts like a new car. Total cost: $19. Total
    time: two hours.

Now all I gotta do is fix the overheating problem. It runs up to 212 degrees.

  • I got a little enthusiastic shifting and the shift lever went all mushy. But I did
surprise a pimply-faced teenager driving his mother’s Honda. But finding a
gear turned into a hunt and hope process.

    Rick Drake to the rescue!

The problem is that little nylon clip on the “shifter shaft lever arm pin” that
had disintegrated. Thanks to Rick, I was…[Read more]

  • The one I saw (yellow with brown fenders, the classic “Cream Cracker”) was
VW powered. It might have been a BCW but I suspect it was a Fiberfab. Good
    price though.

  • I have a mechanical speedometer and run 10-40 weight oil. I’m due for an
annual oil change and and thinking of changing to 20-50 weight oil. I upped
the idle RPM to 800 and hope that might solve the oil low pressure light (no
    pressure gauge) problem.

  • Mark,
I live in Sacramento and we were hit by two base closures. Talk about
trauma! A good buddy of mine who worked at McClellan was caught three
years short of retirement and was about to move to Hill AFB. He was a
property owner (paid for) and wanted to retire here. Anyway, he decided to
keep his home, leave his family here, and live…[Read more]

  • Mark,
I’ve only been a member of this forum for a short time but you have helped
me immensely. Best of luck in your move.

What a hoot! That sounds like Click and Clack of auto maintenance
    column fame.

I went the replica route for a very good reason. I owned a 1952 MG TD
when I was in college. Driving the car anything above 60 MPH was an
excise in terror. And the car did break down a lot. One dark and stormy
night, I was driving down a back road at around 50 MPH when…[Read more]

Thanks. I’m trying to install a Classics Instruments gauge with an electrical
pickup on the sender. I hadn’t though about it, but I’ll see if I can keep the
    oil pressure warning light.

    Thanks, fellas
I checked them both out, but here’s what I’m looking for in a Voltage gauge.

  • Hi Larry,
I have a Chevette based BCW 52 TD roadster. The windshield wiper assembly
looks like it is off a VW bug.

  • Hi there, I’m new to the forum and am in the process of rejuvenating a 1985
BCW Model TD with a 1976 Chevette engine and transmission. I have the
same problem with the transmission. After driving the car at least thirty
minutes, it will not shift into reverse. However, after sitting for 20 to 25
minutes, it works fine. This doesn’t happen all the…[Read more]
