Yes. right down the middle both sides of the spine looks like the easiest and best for mine. I am tempted try mounting a radiator above the engine like the limk I posted and see if that works ok. I would involve a lot less modification to the car!

How about aluminum EMT ? or even galvanized, I wonder if the galvanize would react with the anti-freeze in any negative way? Getting a rad to work shouldn’t be too much of a problem, we do have quite a bit of room up there! Should be excellent airflow too.

Some of the beetle guys have managed to fit the coolant pipes up through the tunnel. sounds like it’s quite a job but it sure would be the neatest! My car has quite good ground clearance so I don’t think 1.5″ shd 40 pipe would be much of a problem down there! It’s not like we are offroading like a buggy!

Have you sourced out a radiator yet and given thought to mounting it and the plumbing? That looks to me to be the hardest part of the conversion!
It is interesting that VW got such a bad rap for their head gasket problems with the Wasserboxer in the vanagon when Subaru had similar problems with theirs during those years. In both cases it wa…[Read more] -

It will be exciting to follow your progress! I intend to install a 1.9 wasserboxer into mine, similar to the way this buggy was done http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=130150
I likely will use a standard beetle manifold with a single 34mm solex. my object is to acheive the liquid cooled engine along with it’s advantages not a…[Read more]

I would recommend the sva dist with the 30 pict carb as well. even though mine runs well with a dist from a fuel injected car, it ran just as well with the svs, and poorer with the 009 . The only place I’d run an 009 is with dual carbs when you have no venturi vacuum signal.Ed

Ed Service replied to the topic Carb Adjustment Problem in the forum VW Based Kits 11 years, 6 months ago
I just drilled my main jet out with a 55 drill bit. A very nice improvement in performance a drivability, possibly some loss of fuel economy but I’m still getting better than 25 us MPG. Some people reduce the power jet to 50- 55 but I left mine alone, I’m not into the power jet very often! ( I drive my car fairly easy)

The 30 pict carb is usually a fairly mild-mannered thing and easy to tune, at least compared to the 34! Myself I would rather run a 30 and suffer the small loss in power than put up with the nonsense the 34 is capable of. The 30 pict is usually way to lean on the main jet for smooth power, it probably worked ok with a new, tight engine but most of…[Read more]

Ed Service replied to the topic gauge wiring in the forum VW Based Kits 11 years, 6 months ago
An oil pressure gauge is a fun thing to have but a oil TEMP gauge is far more useful in a Volkswagen! Many people spend lots of time and money chasing a oil pressure problem when they really have an oil temperature problem, especially in an air-cooled engine. ( anything you do to increase oil pressure if the problem is actually oil temperature…[Read more]

It IS a bitc* to keep shiny! I wanted a green one and settled for Black. It sure does look cute when it is all cleaned up though. It has been almost a daily driver for me this summer.

Were you able to RE and Re the shroud with the engine in the car? I had to remove the engine cover to do mine but even with it off it was a tight squeeze getting the shroud on over the oil cooler.

Yes! very nice job! You might want to cover up that big hole in the back where the throttle tube goes through also if you’re into fixing air leaks on it. It has always seemed silly to me to make such a fuss about the “Hoover bit” and never address that big leak.
