So far I have forms and cash from Paul, Bill and Audrey (Crash) Hass, and Billinparts.
Couple others have…[Read more]

What year pan is it built on? I think TN exempts pre-1975 vehicles from emissions testing; there should be a way to get antique plates for it.

Learning to let go is also a crucial skill I’m trying to develop.
I do plan to drive it a few hundred miles at least to sort it and make it right. I think that’ll be enough.
Then it’s probably going on Bring a Trailer with a lower reserve than I will be comfortable with.
Bridget is my forever plastic clown car.

Dang. The clutch MC on your race car was not mounted to steel?

Hours so far: just under 1,000. Cash in is circa $36,000. There’s a little more to go. Not cheep.
Here’s a run-of-the-mill Beck on Bring a Trailer which sold the other day for $43,000.
There are quite a few trading around this figure, which is close to what a new Vintage or Beck would go for—but without many of the coolio d…[Read more]

I visited the car Saturday and it’s looking pretty awesome. Painter says he’ll probably bring me the Spyder Saturday.

I love how some of these cars look like they just rolled out of high tea at a garden party and others (ahem) look like they just rolled out of Thunderdome.

Good on ya both tackling this though.
Roy, like you I was taught the dual master cylinder gave redundancy. It is supposed to, but it’s also supposed to be scary–like pedal goes to the floor scary. Fortunately I’ve never had to test the theory that you can still stop with one part of the system wide open.

I trailered the car to a far-away painter last week and he appears to be doing the work.
I am stoked, boys.

By the description this car sounds like a great deal. Wish I was in the market for one.

Roy’s car is super clean and the real knock-off wires and fold-down screen make it special. Def worth a look.

There are online helpers that allow you to search many (or even all) Craigslists at once. I’d do a regional search for “MG TD” and one for “MG Kit.” There are plenty around and they’re usually cheap, but you can drop a lot of money in one if you get a little bit attached and start to give a shit. Ask me how I know.

I’m not to conversant in Chevette but there is a club with a forum, and there are dudes who actually race these things. Apparently they’re pretty durable and reliable. Good luck!
