Sorry for not replying sooner Paul. Yes that’s the car.

Easiest thing to do is take them to a front end shop. They can press the old ones out and the new ones in in short order. Or if you know someone with a press you can do it yourself. Be careful.

Just back on this forum and catching up. Did you ever find a car? If not we should talk.

The gas tank is built in under the deck in the front compartment. Filler neck is the radiator cap. Be careful when filling as auto shut off doesn’t always work and you’ll spill gas all over your grill and front end if you’re not careful.

Post some pics when you get the car. There is one other on this site besides me with Allison’s.

Since you have access to a machine shop why not make a thin aluminum disc the size of the recess with the same texture as you emblem.

We’d love to do it but that’s a heck of a haul from south Louisiana. Sounds like a lot of fun. We’re gonna hook up with a local British Car Club down here. They are mostly later model MGB’s and such but said they’d welcome a TD owner even if it is a replica. Gonna attend their January meeting and see how warm the reception is.

Got mine last Friday. Ordered on the 12th received on the 19th. Very pleased with the product. Thanks again Ed for putting this together.

Mr. May is “Winston”. He’s a 1981 Allison Replicar company factory built model. Powered by a balanced and blue printed VW 1776 engine. Picture was taken at North Park in Denham Springs, Louisiana last September. Couple in the pic is my Grandaughter and her date for her first homecoming dance. May just happens to be her birthday month as well.

Great idea. A belly reversal would give you front clearence and at the same time provide a lumbar support. Now why didn’t I think of that!

The steering wheel reversal is a great idea. Didn’t Model A’s have a wheel that looked like that?

the Peel and Seal from Home Depot and Lowe’s is about .050 thick. Don’t know how much sound proofing it will do but it’s bound to help. It will stop vibration however which is the source for a lot of unwanted noises on metal parts.

If you’re wondering if he’s the real Santa or a replica just check under his hood or bonnett as they say in jolly old England.

Merry Christmas to all of you and a wish for a happy and healthy New Year.

Keep a prayer in your hearts for our troops that they have a safe and quiet holiday season and return safely to their loved ones.

On average about how long did it take to get your calendar once ordered? Just curious as to when to start looking. Placed my order on the 12th.

Ordered 2 today. My Grandaughter is gonna be surprised to see herself as a calander girl. Thanks so much Ed for all the effort.

I know what you mean about head scratching. If you’ve ever built something, anything, you’ve done your share. I’ve scratched my head so much over the years that I hardly have any hair left in that spot.

I’ve got wire knock offs on Winston now with a VW 4 bolt pattern but they came with the car from Allison when it was new back in 1981 and I don’t know who the company got them from. I’ll see if I can post a pic of the adapter that bolts to the VW drum. Sure would like to find a set for a reasonable price.

Great Action shot. Must admit you had me for a while. Thought something wasn’t quite right with the scarf blowing straight back. Like the helmet and goggles.  Great Pic!

It’s made for roofing systems and rain gutters. I don’t have it on any overhead surfaces. I used it on the floor of the pan and on the rear package tray area behind the back seat. Verdict is still out on how long it lasts or how the heat affects it as I just put it down about 6 months ago. It’s gonna be under carpet. I will say once you put it down it’s stuck and hell to get off. I layed it down pressed it with my hand then used a hard rubber roller to roll it into the nooks and crannies. I’ll see if I have a pic and post it.

Here’s a couple pics of it on the chassis.

If you are thinking about going the Dynamat route there is a much less expensive material sold at Lowe’s and Home Depot. It’s called Peel and Seal. It’s in the roofing section. I lined my entire chassis and the rear package tray section on the body on my 65 Beetle with it and it makes a huge difference. It’s metal faced on one side with an extremely sticky surface on the other. You peel off the protective paper and stick it down. Easy to work with.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one with a leather helmet. I got mine off of ebay a few years back but alas it was to small so I’m in the market for one that fits. I am also interested in the prescription thingy with the goggles. The silk scarf is a cool idea but with the back draft from the wind I end up with it in my face more than blowing behind me. LOL

You guys need to post some pics with the helmet and goggles on so I can convince my wife I’m not the only one out there.

You’re right Ed. That’s exactly why I don’t use them. This is my first winter with the car so we’ll see how it goes. I don’t much like even having the top up let alone side curtins. Too much of a closed in feeling. But I’ll leave the top up for most of the winter anyway. People down here look at you a little strange driving a car with the top down while wearing a snow suit and bomber hat.

From the sounds of things here you guys really have a time with the side curtins. I guess I lucked out. My Allison has side curtins like the early model Jeep YJ’s. The side curtin frame slips into the door itself and opens and closes with the door. Problem is either the side curtins are on or they are off. There’s no window to zip in or out. Fortunately down south I never use them. On the few days it’s to cold to drive without the side curtins on I don’t drive the car. Otherwise with just the top on and the heater going it’s enough to keep from freezing to death. You would think that since these cars are originally British that they would have designed a better top and side curtin system given the weather over there.

Great post Ed. I especially like the show me the money comment.

I had a guy at the Cruisin The Coast event ask me how much I paid for Winston. When I didn’t say he asked $60K. I said with a smile. “No, but if you’re in the market I’d certainly consider $60K as a good starting figure. He smiled back!
