Ringo,
Thanks for the info. I already messed up……I checked and the clear coat is acrylic.
I’ll get some of the rust converter and polish off the acrylic stuff. Thank goodness I only did one basket. Fortunately the basket polishing can be done while watching a TV movie or sports inside with steel wool. I have some high gloss clear lacquer to c…[Read more] -

I have not only a dirt and grime problem on my baskets, but a rust problem. I would steel wool off the rust stains back to shiny chrome, but the rust would come back. On one of the wheels I used a clear coat as a test. It seems to work well to keep moisture from the rust, but I don’t know if this will have to be recoated all the time. The wires…[Read more]

I have CAD drawings for the top frame for Ford Fiberfab in PDF format. It has complete dimensions to make the frame. I can email the drawings to you if you want them.

Here is a link.
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_properly_shim_a_starter
It seems that Chevy (GM) has more shimming issues than Ford. My wife reminded me that it was on my GM that I shimmed and not the Mustang. It’s worth a look if it is shimming. It sounds like a new starter may be in order.

I forgot to say that I looked at Ringo’s car with the tape on the slats. That is so cool. I really like it. I also really like Ringo’s car, it’s absolutely stunning. She looks like she is ready to fly. I wish my wire baskets looked better. Does Ringo have real wires? The red slats with the black body and the chrome are awesome.

The screen has been easy to clean so far. It doesn’t have much surface for bugs to stick, some just bounce off when they hit. The others get a hose blast.
The split between the fogs had been filled and gelcoated before I got the car. When I installed the driving light it mounts thru the wood blocking that holds the split together. It seems that…[Read more] -

The radiator slats on my replica are chrome. I wanted to add some color without painting the chrome. I removed the slats and inserted a section of metal window screen that I had painted to match the interior. I replaced the polished chrome slats behind the painted screen material. From side angles, the slats pick up the color, but from straight…[Read more]

Rich,
Is the starter alignment good? I ran into that problem before where it worked great on the bench, but would either not engage the flywheel or would grab it. I adjusted the alignment with some shim washers since my starter was actually slightly too close to the flywheel even tho it was the correct replacement starter. I did not have problems…[Read more] -

My first ride ever was in my replica during the test drive the day I bought it. When I test drove it, the interior was out of the car, we placed the seat bases in and used the seat belts to hold us down. My son was with me and his seat was low and mine was high. I did replace both seat bases with new lower bases that sloped back once I bought the…[Read more]

LOL….I really like the excuse of ‘having to get new tools’, that is priceless
. I’ll put that in my vocabulary for future use. Probably get to use that many times over and over.
One of my favorite tools that I found at an off brand tool store was for a metric adjustable wrench. It was on a rack next to the SAE adjustable wrenches….the metric…[Read more] -

Dick, I have heard
Lucas Lighting is the prince of darkness.
When I read the Click and Clack review, I was hearing their voices saying it, what a great review. Sounds like you agree. My car is the Fiberfab, but I do love the BCW.

Rich is so right, cars deteriote when they sit. It always amazes me how fast a car will go bad when not driven.
One of the first things I did was replace all the rubber components on the engine. I ordered everything that was rubber and placed it all into a box and waited for warmer weather. I replaced everything on the first warm day, except for…[Read more] -

Awesome. I know after replacing it, you feel a lot better knowing it is good to go. Hope your knuckles are okay, mine always seem to take a beating.
Congratulations

Be sure to post some pics. I wish I could make it but my best friend is getting married that weekend down south near Atlanta, I’d better not miss the wedding.

Rich,
It’s a great feeling. Usually the only time I find loose parts is when they fall off on the road
. It’s strange how quiet the car is now. I’ll miss the old jingle….NOT. Check your shocks
!

MYSTERY SOLVED

Thank you everyone. I have found the jingle. It was the shock absorber. With the car at rest, the top nut and washer on the shock felt firm. Put someone in the car and then you have close to a quarter inch of space between the rubber bushing, that has turned into a rock, and the large washer. When there is a load on the rear wheels,…[Read more] -

Paul,
Is that you in the car with the 36 on the hood? AWESOME!
Across from you on that page is the Datsun Roadster. Looks just like the one I have except my fogs are round and my rust is visible. I have the same hardtop.
Here is the page I was on:
