I placed seal into frame as well as I could and used ratcheting tie downs to encourage into frame. Trimmed what I am calling excess seal. Seems seated and square fits as it should on body but is not mounted, and months from road test.
I’ve done it before but for the life of me I can’t upload picture.Oh evidently I canjuneybug2013-09-14 18:50:29

And now that I’ve read your post carefully, in Allen’s photo the extensions at the top of the support bracket go to bolt holes at the ends of the torsion tube. To the best of my knowledge the side to side piece does not attach at the center. You should know mine is in pieces in my garage. Have the pedals and shifter out, and the VW seat rails off.…[Read more]

the bracket that comes up from the frame wishbone is a 32 inch angle iron 2″ by 2″ by 1/4 thick and the 2 vertical pieces are 14″ flat also 2″ and 1/4″ thick. hopefully you can see in the photo the slots to accommodate the u-bolts that attach to the wishbone. My vertical pieces have no slots so it may be the expectation is to weld to the larger…[Read more]

I have bought some fiberglass parts from him that were missing from an unassembled kit I bought. He will negotiate (as much as 50% on some parts – don’t tell him I said so)and appears to be only game in town for FG. Anything other than fbrgls go to mgmagic cip even mossmotors.Be sure to identify you kit precisely and ask for photo of part. I…[Read more]

If you look in – my project – juneybug there is 1 photo of a spring plate and how I decambered both sides 1 spline. I am working with a VW pan with no MGr parts on it yet, so completely accessible. Also a simple swing axle. I did not access the torsion bars and I don’t have any lean so what I did won’t fix your issue but FYI.

Mike Schumacher replied to the topic Rear torsion indexing-sag removal in the forum VW Based Kits 11 years, 10 months ago
Allen – thanks for your concern, I had read of the potential and was careful but for some reason the tension unload in my case was not that exciting. My motivation hasn’t been ride height but cambering, without the weight of the beetle body I fear my rear wheels will never see vertical again. Are there other ways to stabilize rear tread, shorter…[Read more]

Didn’t know there was a spring plate tool, but I got it done without. A little tricky but possible. see new project juneybug for photo. getting the plate above the lip just below center of photo is 1 trick. And now to answer my own question… when I took the 3 bolts off at the swing axle the expectation was it would slide off the spring plate and…[Read more]

truly an imaginative and skilled craftsman, I hope you’re a careful driver or you’ll soon have more speeding fines than you need. Really it has been fun going thru your thread but Alfred looks like he will be scary fast. Take care – Mike

Yes there were 4 at the torsion bar and 3 at the axle all out. even smacked the plate with a mallet. did scribe it as well thanks. And now to answer my own question… when I took the 3 bolts off at the swing axle the expectation was it would slide off the spring plate and release the tension. It didn’t, but when I took off the shock and kicked the…[Read more]

to decamber rear wheels manual says to pull spring plate off torsion bar. I have exerted enough pressure with pry bar to pause and ask advice. It is just not moving. Thanks Mike Really thought this was going to be easy chassis mod!
